Questions of eternal significance: Wii vs. XBOX?
Several months back I asked this question and most people suggested we start with a Wii since the games are more geared to kids. We bought a used Wii system from some friends and we’ve been using it a lot. I’ve limited our usage thus far to Just Dance, Guitar Hero, Wii Sports and Wii Fit. I know there are some other great games for kids but I’ve been trying to avoid the games that use the joystick because I think they will favor them over the more active games, and they are pretty enthusiastic . . .
Questions of eternal significance: do you keep your nails painted?
Okay, today’s question is completely superfluous (hastag first world problems), but I want to know: do you keep your nails painted or rock them au naturale? Doing my nails has always been one of the grooming habits that totally confounds me. I have nails that grow very fast. I’m sure the grass is always greener and that many women would love nails that grow quickly, but I find it totally annoying. I would love to have short nails that I can just paint with a dark, funky color, but within a week . . .
Mac vs. Windows: Is it time for me to convert?
In a tragic ending to our island vacation, I stuck a water bottle into my bag at the airport and it leaked all over my laptop. Said laptop will no longer power on. I've got it at a repair shop to try to rescue the data (a scenario I am in denial about because the last time I "backed up" was . . . oh, fall 2012? I have a whole lot of photos hanging in the balance and I just cannot even think about it without feeling sick.) In the meantime, I desperately need a new computer. (I am . . .
Questions of eternal significance: Do you wear makeup every day?
via Jessie Phillips A facebook friend asked this question the other day, and I thought the responses were so interesting. What about you? Do you wear makeup every day? If so, why? And what makeup do you wear . . . a full face? Just a little mascara? What’s the minimum you will leave the house in? I wear makeup every day. EVERY. SINGLE DAY. If I’m sick. If I’m on a mission trip to Haiti. If I’m on vacation in Palm Springs. If I’m doing a quick Target run. I always apply makeup as soon as I wake . . .
Talk to me about Minecraft
Jafta is 8-years-old, and in his mind every single other child his age is playing Minecraft during their free time. He and his friends talk about Minecraft ALL THE TIME, and the funny thing is, I finally asked a couple of the parents about it and their kids aren’t even playing it either. They are just obsessed. Obsessed with talking about it, thinking about it, and dreaming about how much better life would be with access to Minecraft. Jafta has been begging me to let him play at home, and I’m . . .
Questions of eternal significance: do you re-read books you’ve already finished?
[photo credit] Some friends and I were talking about books the other day, and I mentioned that I never keep the books I’ve already read. I read a lot and have a habit of buying too many books, so my shelves are already filled with things I want to read. I really don’t have space for the things I’ve already read. So as soon as I finish a book, I pass it on. Very, very rarely do I keep a book. I like to set them out into the world for others to enjoy. I’m storing up my literary karma. Anyway, my . . .
Questions of Eternal Significance: Would you ever consider plastic surgery?
I know this one can be a bit of a hot topic. I’m not considering plastic surgery at the moment . . . in fact, I’ve long been opposed to it. I live in Orange County, which is probably one of the global capitals of plastic surgery. It’s a very commonplace thing here, and honestly it’s one of the things I most dislike about where I live. I’m often dismayed by the fact that women here don’t seem to feel permission to just look their age. There are so many women here walking around with altered . . .
Questions of Eternal Significance: Do you unpack in a hotel room?
Source: frostedpetticoatblog.com via The Frosted Petticoat on Pinterest This has been an insane month of travel for me. It started with the Mom 2.0 Summit, then a few days later our trip to Disney World, and today I’m off to San Francisco for a couple days for work. I think, by the end of the month, I will have slept in a hotel more nights than I’ve slept in my own bed. This fact . . . is not my favorite. I am a nester by nature. I love to travel but I also really like to settle in and . . .
Questions of eternal significance: what shoes do you wear to a theme park?
We’ve spent the week at Disney World this week (lots of pics and stories to come) but I wanted to pop in and ask a vitally important question here . . . one that has confounded me for decades: What shoes should one wear to an amusement park? There is so much walking at Disney World. Last year my feet were hurting by day 2. I can never figure out the best shoe wear for miles of walking while NOT wearing exercise gear. Sine I hit my 30’s I’ve found I need decent arch support and cannot . . .
Questions of eternal significance: how often do you visit your spouse/partner’s office?
Today’s hard-hitting question is a two-fer: it’s both completely random and also self-serving (I’m trying to defend myself in a minor marital spat). Earlier this week we were talking about my husband’s office (he’s a therapist in private practice). He mentioned that he would like a new sofa and it occurred to him that I hadn’t been to his office in a while. We both tried to think of the last time I had been there, and honestly, I think it’s been about two years since I stepped foot . . .
