We finally got in to see the specialist. It's a re-break of his fall football injury. Casted up to his armpit. 😩 Can't wait for Mary Anne to save the day ... As parents it's really important to adjust the language we are using around disappointments for our kids, because we are modeling how they will process all of this. I have two athletes. Sports being canceled. . . it sucks. It's frustrating. But will it ruin their mental health? Not if we can reframe it. Not if we can find other ways . . .

Talking Transracial Adoption with Adoptee Coach Angela Tucker
I'm chatting with Angela Tucker (@angieadoptee) about her experience growing up as a black adoptee with white parents, and the importance of white parents of black children to provide education and mentoring from black adults. We also talk about the disparity of black children in foster care, the distrust of law enforcement and social services, and the nuances of transnationally adopted kids being both immigrants from their home country and Black Americans. She has a ton of wisdom to share. . . .

View this post on Instagram "I can't win." "It's never good enough." These are defeatist narratives I am hearing from white people who are dipping their toes into speaking about race for the first time, and finding it to be complex and nuanced and maybe not as easy as they'd hoping. I'm talking about the aspects of privilege that are bubbling up in these kinds of statements, from our belief that black voices should be a . . .

People love to say that racism has to be taught. I'm not so sure anymore. I think we are swimming in a racist environment and kids pick up on it because it's all around us. One thing I do know: antiracism has to be taught. We need to be intentional. And it needs to be an ongoing dialogue. To all women, on Mother’s Day
Happy Mother's Day to the moms quarantining with their kids. Who have become homeschool principals, household IT managers, chief sanitizers, google pediatricians, home chefs, and more while managing to not completely lose their cool (at least most of the time.) Happy Mother's Day to the sons and daughters who have lost their parents and grandparents this year to a shocking and devastating pandemic, whose grief is compounded by the isolation of this difficult season. Happy Mother’s Day to . . .

Happy birthday to this cutie! Someone please explain how my youngest is 11!! This weekend's family project: some new bookshelves for my bedroom alcove. I'm here to report that staining is harder than it looks and I never want to do it again. It took four of us applying stain at the same time to get these looking decent. Making signs for Aunt Sarah as she gets out of the hospital today. We love you @sarebearlyons! Home ec. Hope everyone is ok. Check in when you . . .
