find a way to get you home

January 19, 2010

We have made some incredible friends in this adoption journey. Many of them I got to meet for the first time just over a week ago during our race for Heartline. That feels like a lifetime ago. I left feeling so bonded with these women, especially after battling the elements of that bitterly cold Sunday morning. Little did I know our lives would change in two days, and how that bond would be cemented as we wait and watch and worry about our little ones in Haiti.Today there has been so much . . .

DHS: Secretary Napolitano Announces Humanitarian Parole Policy for Certain Haitian Orphans"Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano, in coordination with the U.S. Department of State, today announced a humanitarian parole policy allowing orphaned children from Haiti to enter the United States temporarily on an individual basis to ensure that they receive the care they need—as part of the U.S. government’s ongoing support of international recovery efforts after last week’s . . .

Who is Kembert?Kembert is Keanan is Kembert. We've been using his legal name in the press, in case someone decides to advocate on our behalf with the government. That is our hope in all of this.I saw kids on CNN going home, and the State Dept issued a statement. Does that apply to you? There are statements from the state department about emergency visas and news reports of some families being "reunited". Unfortunately this good news does not apply to us, or to most of the families waiting. These . . .

operation “get him home”

January 16, 2010

*UPDATE - OUR SON RECEIVED HUMANITARIAN PAROLE AND IS NOW HOME. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!* I am home from Haiti, safe and relieved. So many stories to tell, but right now we are mobilizing our energy towards trying to get our son home, too. It was extremely difficult to leave him in Haiti under the current situation. We are hearing rumors that there may be an option for getting him home under humanitarian parole. I know a lot of you are reading this blog and offering help. THIS IS HOW YOU CAN . . .

Day 2 (yesterday)Today continued to be very emotional. I am at the end of myself. I don’t think I’ve slept well in a week and we all feel a little crazy. The tremors have continued. They are not as frequent but there were two very intense ones this evening, that caused the walls to rattle. However, all day long the earth feels like it is pitching. This is extremely difficult for me. I think we all have a little PTSD from yesterday and every shake brings back that feeling of dread. I am in hyper . . .

(day 1 - Tuesday)Last night a massive earthquake hit Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, where I am visiting our adoptive son. I am still reeling. The reports I’ve heard are saying it was a 7.4. I’m finding that hard to believe, having been through many an earthquake in my day living in California. It felt like nothing I have ever experienced. At about 5pm, we were getting ready to head out for dinner. I had Karis strapped in her infant car seat, and Keanan was playing in the backyard. I ran upstairs to grab . . .

No word…

January 14, 2010

Mark here: I have not had any contact with anyone in Haiti for about 12 hours. It seems they lost their phones and internet connections. We are working hard on options to get her and Karis out, but we have no way to communicate these plans with her. If anyone gets in touch with her or any of our friends in Haiti pass on this info:- Kristen's flight on American Airlines has been cancelled. The 1st AA option for her is on the 21st, she has a confirmed seat.- She's book on a Spirit Airlines flight . . .

Kristen in Port au Prince…

January 13, 2010

Mark here, I just spoke to Kristen about an hour ago. She's OK and actually got some much needed sleep last night. They were able to sleep inside at the Livesay's house, which seems to be structurally sound in the midst of being surrounded by piles of rubble. Karis is doing better, she has stopped throwing up. Keanan seem oblivious to what's happened and is happily playing.Kristen and Karis are confirmed on a flight for Miami tomorrow.... the big question is whether or not the airport will be . . .
