Fondue and sparkling soda and ballot bets with India. It’s the superbowl for theater geeks. @thetonyawards Concerts and monster trucks and fair tickets ... let the summer fun begin! Orange County friends - get out and vote today! It’s time to unseat Dana Rohrbacher and his abysmal record on human rights and gun reform. If you are a Democrat check our Harley Rouda. If you are a Republican check out Paul Martin. Both have compassionate views on immigration, a heart for social . . .
Hover Craft
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from April 2008. This morning I hosted a playdate for my son and three other little boys. My son was really struggling to get along with them, for many reasons. For one, my son was the youngest, so he was having trouble following the "rules" of their games, and frustrating them. Also, the other boys spend a lot of time with each other, and they seemed to get a kick out of acting like Jafta was a complete social parasite. And then, my son has . . .

After a nail-biting game India’s team is going for the championship! What a fun first soccer experience for her. Thank you @cleezy for encouraging this “non-sporty” girl to keep going! ?: @fmorton I guess the drywall guy decided my spendy @cb2 lamps needed some texture too. ?? So proud of India. Despite the fact that she’s “a non-sporty person” (her words), she participated in our city’s soccer tournament with her classmates and had a great time, and her team has advanced to . . .
Happiness at the Misfortune of Others
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from April 2008. DEF schadenfreude SHOD-n-froy-duh, noun: a malicious satisfaction obtained from the misfortunes of others. My kids love a book called "No, David". It is the first choice for reading of both my toddler and preschooler. I first saw this book in a bookstore, and thought that the depictions of this rascly little boy and the trouble he gets in to portrayed a negative message to kids. On every page, David is doing something . . .

Reading bandits have taken over my bed. Which color for the bathroom? What my boys are up to these days. Pretty much all day every day. Shout out to @_bensauer for the filming and the coaching! @jaftahowerton @kembehowerton I’m forbidden from saying too much but omg, old-school Star Wars fans: this movie will make you giddy. So good. #soloastarwarsstory Today our own government’s official website posted a warning about a Hispanic gang in the . . .
Is yours the black kid?
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from March 2008. It's always funny seeing people trying to be PC about our transracial family. It's like everyone is scared to say the word "black" or describe him in those terms. I am constantly chuckling to myself when people will say, "is that your son over there, with the blue shirt, and jeans?" or "is your son the one with dreadlocks?". Particularly because in most scenarios here in vanilla OC, he is the one-and-only black child in a . . .
My mother-daughter business trip with India
This post is sponsored by the Dove Self-Esteem Project I went to Mom 2.0 Summit last month, which is a conference for influencers in the parenting space. It's my favorite conference every year and this year I decided to take India with me. She's always been curious about the conferences I attend, and as she's getting older I thought it could be inspiring for her to see so many female entrepreneurs. So she attended as an "intern" and helped out where she could. She attended some of the . . .

The Softer Side of Sears
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from March 2008. We just had another round of family photos at Sears. I always promise myself I won't go back to a mall-type studio, because I have had so many experiences of teenage photographers wasting my time and taking bad shots of the kids while they have a complete and total meltdown. Those studios are tough because they don't shoot rapidly enough to catch the kids in action, and then the space is so small that the kids are always running . . .

I love them a lot and I like them a lot. Feeling grateful today. I’m sure every mom has those moments of wondering if she’s doing it right or bungling the whole thing but today my kids made me a very intentional 2-course breakfast followed by thoughtful cards, gifts, planned skits, and then just cuddling in bed with me until were late for church. And it felt like I’m doing alright. Kind kids ... that’s the highest value. ❤️❤️ Happy Mother's Day to those of you navigating . . .
