Life Lately

September 17, 2018

She woke up and decided today was going to be a “rock star day.” ?   Drinking and axe throwing. What could go wrong??     Just watching Saturday morning Rage Against the Machine videos with the kids, as one does, and noticed this TRUMP FOR PRESIDENT sign. Some 20 years ago. Woahhhh.   Okay friends. I need to pick a . . .

What’s Best for You vs. What’s Best for Me || On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from September 2008.

September 13, 2018

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from September 2008. Jafta is starting preschool on Monday. Over the years, I've been witness to many a preschool conversations by my friends with older kids. I've always listened and glibly thought, come on, it's just preschool. Ah, sweet pre-parent naivete. So now that it's my turn, I've been agonizing over where to send Jafta to preschool since April. I kind of had a list of criteria that I was looking for in a preschool: 1. it's . . .

It’s funny how little traditions can pop up on vacations in less than a week. Ours became taking a blanket down to the beach and playing games while we watched the sunset. (And of course, virgin drinks at the bar at happy hour.) Last night of summer vacation. Games on the beach. Only one kid on a phone. ? I sure do like these people. I asked the guide if the horses would be safe for kids and he said “we’ll see.” That maybe should have been a clue to how the rides would go. We . . .

Getting Real || On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from July 2008.

August 30, 2018

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from July 2008. Angel over at Voice of Adventure just posted this challenge on her blog: The truth is I am SICK, SICK, SICK of people feeling all alone because they think everyone else is less screwed up than them. It's ridiculous. We all have our times we are flying high and our times we are doing a nose dive. Why do we all pretend? It's all a pack of lies wrapped in a bunch of arrogance. So I am going to give it my best shot and TRY to get . . .

Do you unpack your suitcase when you travel? India is my mini-me in more ways than one. ?? Moms of toddlers, take heart. In a matter of years your kids can make you a dinner like this and then beg to watch The Daily Show with you and even queue it up on the ROKU while you check facebook. This stage is my favorite. ?                         What am I stressed out about . . .

A fun, relaxing, chaotic, hot, busy, and laughter-filled weekend with friends and a whole lot of kids. Love this tradition. When the adults are as into karaoke as the kids. Annual sunset stroll ❤️❤️ gnoring our children like the vacation pros we are. @cleezy@shesgonnalive @fmorton Kind of love JetBlue for offering inflight headspace meditations . . .

Happy Place Karis did not appreciate the Frozen logo on my bargain-bin sunscreen  so she made her own cover for it. Kembe won the “ball of champions” at basketball camp for a second week this summer and decided, all on his own, to give the ball to a friend. Love this kid’s big heart. Bring Back That Lovin’ Feeling

July 19, 2018

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from June 2008 I have a secret to tell you. Are you ready? I'm going to whisper it so no one else hears. I'm a little embarrased about it, so I'm saying it really quietly. You ready? Okay, here goes: Some days I don't really like my kids. It feels awful and evil to say that, but it's true. Kids can sometimes behave in ways that are, frankly, kind of hard to love. And yet, we continue to love them, because that's what a parent . . .
