Jafta is starting preschool on Monday. Over the years, I've been witness to many a preschool conversations by my friends with older kids. I've always listened and glibly thought, come on, it's just preschool. Ah, sweet pre-parent naivete.So now that it's my turn, I've been agonizing over where to send Jafta to preschool since April. I kind of had a list of criteria that I was looking for in a preschool:1. it's realy, really close to my house2. he can eat lunch there so I can run more errands3. . . .

According to AA, addiction is characterized by the following criteria:1. the person spends excessive money obtaining substance (three yogurts = $7.55)2. the person spends a large portion of their day thinking about when they can get their next "hit" (is 10am too early for yogurt?) 3. the person needs more of the substance to get the same fix (back off, kids. that's mommy's!)4. the person develops a dependence on the substance, and experiences an uncomfortable withdrawal between use (Must. Have. . . .

The kids decided to climb into their water table. Do you think they want us to get a swimming pool??I think this was a hint. . . .

Mark decided to take the kids to their first pro-baseball game tonight. When we told Jafta, he was so excited. While we were getting ready, we noticed that Jafta went to his room and put his baseball cap on. And then when we were loading the car, we noticed that he had put his baseball, bat, and t-ball stand in the trunk. He was totally assuming that he would be playing.When we told him that they were just going to watch a game, he was so devastated. He had totally envisioned himself playing out . . .

Just wanted to share this time-saving tip with other moms:I like having our beds made, but I was getting really tired of making my son's bed every morning. He has a captain's bed, that is high and against the wall, so it was a lot of tucking, a lot of climbing, a lot of tucking. So. . . .I decided to leave his bed made and have him sleep on top of the comforter/quilt. At night, we just cover him with the red blanket. In the morning, all I have to do is fold the red blanket. No climbing, no . . .

Have I mentioned how much I love the show Little Bill? These writers are genius, and today they made my life a little easier.Just this morning I was thinking about how it was probably time for Jafta to embrace the concept of "alone time". Jafta is a seriously social kid. He is an extrovert with a capital E. Jafta loves being around people, and it's adorable and loveable and inspiring and COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY EXHAUSTING. This is the kid who begged to have all four of us pack up and move into . . .
