Countdown to July 4th
We are preparing for 4th of July around here. Our neighborhood has a huge block party, and we live in a ghetto city were fireworks are legal, so after the kids have a parade and we stuff our faces, the adults put on a fireworks show right outside our house. Jafta was really excited about the party last year. That is, until the fireworks started. Then he started screaming like a caged animal. He was SO freaked out. We had to go inside, but I must admit, even with the doors closed, our house . . .
The Dummy Mouse
No, I'm not calling India a dummy. I'm referring to the "computer" I rigged up for my daughter, who really wants to play computer games like her big brother. However, every time I let her sit down to the computer, she would bang on the keys and move the mouse like a toy car, which usually resulted in opening files, prompting printer boxes, and any other number of right-click functions that threatened to crash the computer. Not to mention, her brother didn't like being kicked off his game only to . . .
Fun with Hand-Me-Downs
India has been blessed with lots of amazing hand-me-downs. The one I put on her today was kinda funny. It is a Hawaiian print halter top (cropped) that ties in the back with a big bow. It has matching gaucho pants and both are trimmed in eyelet lace. I can't decide if it is totally cute, or really tacky. I think she's rockin' it, but I also think it could be obnoxious. Mark said the same thing when he came home and saw her. He took one look and said, "wow, um, what's up with this outfit?" "I . . .

The Voracious Reader
I accidentally left a board book in India's crib last night. This morning, I woke up to find her in the crib, nibbling away. She had already eaten through three pages. She loves her some cardboard. Mark's take: "I wouldn't say she is as avid a reader as her mommy, but she does devour her books". . . .
India on Percussion
Now it's India's turn. She shows a lot of promise until her noisemakers get tangled up. . . .
Jafta on Drums
Jafta shows off his drumming skills, while India tries to eat a shaker. This is to Ozomatli's "Como Ves". Jafta thinks the lyrics are "I'm a Mess". Who am I to correct him? . . .
And the Pupil Shall Become the Teacher
A few days ago, I picked Jafta up from preschool with the music blaring, seizing the opportunity to listen to my own CD's before "DJ Jafta" got in the car. When he was all buckled in, he informed me, "I don't like the White Stripes. We need some worship music in here". Jafta can be really pokey and distracted while getting dressed. Sometimes I set the timer to give him an incentive to hurry. Yesterday, the kids were dressed and ready for playgroup and I was still drying my hair. Jafta . . .
The New Mom Jean
I went shopping for jeans the other day, and I'm still reeling by some uncomfortable revelations. My shopping quest started because I decided it was time to venture out from my hoodie-and-yoga-pants uniform that I wear pretty much every day. I decided it was time for a little self-care. I'm still young and hip, right? I need a young and hip outfit. I started my adventure in Urban Outfitters, and then headed over to H&M. I can count on these stores to clue me in on the latest . . .
