Spiderman gets a boost

November 19, 2007

Jafta has wanted a spiderman costume since he saw his friend Nate wear one on Halloween. We searched high and low, but just couldn't find one, so we settled on spiderman pajamas. We tried to convince him that it was a costume, but he wasn't buying it. He kept asking about the mask. Yesterday, he found a solution from my bottom drawer . He calls it "spiderman eyes". Um . . . the kid's creative! . . .

Modern Art and Tandem Puking

November 7, 2007

I had the most mortifying parent experience tonight. My friend, who is an amazing artist, was having a show at a local gallery. The gallery had an opening reception for the artists, and we decided to drop in and take the kids. I was thinking we would just make a quick appearance and leave. My kids are usually pretty good with stuff like that, and I want to expose them to culture, yada yada yada.So we head into the gallery and all is good. I've got India in a "mei tai" carrier and Jafta is being . . .

Stay-At-Home-Mom?

November 1, 2007

I don't know how much staying-at-the-house we actually do. We definitely leave the house every single day. I would go stir crazy but also Jafta BEGS to leave the house. If I try staying home in the mornings, he starts negotiating:"mommy, can we go swimming?" "NO, we're staying home today" "AHHHH! mommy, can we go to Nate's house!?" "NO, Jafta, we're just staying home today" "mommy, can we go to the park?"then he starts in on anything he think will work just to leave the house"mommy, we have to . . .

Scolded for my parenting today

October 28, 2007

I had the worst experience today. I went grocery shopping with the kids, and thought we would eat lunch in the restaurant attached to the grocery store. It's a health food shop, and their "diner" is a pretty casual setting, so I though it would be okay if I braved it alone with two kids. Well . . .We sat down, and the only available table was squashed between several other tables. Way too close for comfort. Then we waited forever for anyone to wait on us. The kids were really hungry, and acting . . .

India is a year old!

October 14, 2007

I can't believe my baby is one! I feel like I was just pregnant. We had a great party in our backyard. I served brunch (cheapest option), we got a bouncehouse for the older kids and had a friend lead a sing-a-long. Cute, simple, easy, fun. Yay!But after the party I felt SO sad. I can't believe she will soon be a toddler. It is horrible to say, but I wish she would stay a baby forever! I know that it is bringing up old infertility feelings, and the fact that I may never have another baby. Not to . . .

A TPR. Finally. Again.

September 25, 2007

At court this morning the judge terminated the birthparents’ parental rights! This was a huge court decision and one we have been waiting for to confirm that we could adopt Jafta. This names us as prospective adoptive parents officially. We are back where we were in December 2005 . . . only two years later! Hopefully things can move quickly from this point. We have to wait 60 days to find out if an appeal is filed. Believe it or not, yes, this could happen again, but hopefully things were done . . .

India has a Haitian Twin. Introducing . . .

September 12, 2007

We are officiall matched with the little boy we met in Haiti and were so hoping to adopt. His dossier was just submitted with ours. Our paperwork is in Hatian's social service system, and it will probably be next year before we find out if they approve us. Haiti is a volatile place right now, so we are hoping and praying this adoption will move forward despite a corrupt government. Our little boy shares a birthday with our daughter India. They will both turn one next month on October 6th. Here . . .

Stay Away, and Things Happen

September 8, 2007

Finally! A hearing! Of course, it happened while we were in Seattle. We debated over canceling our trip and then decided that the only way the hearing would actually happen is if we didn’t wake up at the crack of dawn and drive to LA.Anyways, we are so excited to share that things are finally looking good. The judge did the arraignment and disposition on the same day, and set a trial for the TPR (termination of parental rights) on Sep. 24th. She waived the usual 120 day wait. We are again . . .

Our First Family Mission Trip

August 23, 2007

We just returned from our first mission trip as a family. We went with a team from our church to a small village in Baja, Mexico, to build houses for three families. We had an amazing time, and wanted to share some pictures and stories with you.The village we visited was remote and rural, and very different from the Mexico we have visited before. The people lived in extreme poverty, more like the conditions we’ve seen in Africa or India. Most of their homes were shacks built of found materials, . . .
