Dropped my 13-year-old off this morning to head to a megachurch summer camp with her cousin. On the way, she informed me she'd packed her vintage "Legalize Gay" t-shirt to wear just to poke the bear a little. Also one entire side of her suitcase was full of candy because she contains multitudes. This kid had his first official day of work today, doing demo with a construction crew. He came home covered in drywall dust and said he worked his butt off, but had so much fun. I think . . .

A sweet ending to our trip in Paris (where we met up with my boyfriend and his daughter). We had an amazing time but are ready to head home tomorrow and wear clothes we purchased on purpose! Still no luggage. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kristen Howerton (@kristenhowerton) View this post on . . .

Another family from the kids’ school is traveling Europe this week as well. The mom and I schemed a surprise to have the kids “run into each other” at dinner. It was the perfect timing for my kids to have a non-sibling to chat with. A dinner and a last sunset swim wrapped up our time here. On to Rome! Happy Father’s Day to Wayne Lowen, my dad and this family’s patron saint of the travel bug we all share. He humored me when, at 16, I said that for my birthday I wanted to fly to Haiti and visit . . .

Prom ‘22. These siblings would like to clarify for the internet that they were not one another’s dates. Proud of @indiahowerton for having her mixed-media art piece showcased at our district’s art show! Swipe to see a close-up. Kembe is cheering for the “powder puff” girl’s football tonight. I appreciate their commitment to supporting both teams. India and Karis are in Matilda at their school this weekend. India is playing Matilda’s mom, and Karis is playing Matilda’s brother … . . .

First conference in over two years! I took for granted this community of women that I would gather with several times a year at various events and conferences. It was good to be back. @mom2summit Yesterday I had the chance to speak about mental health, kids, and social media alongside Frances Haugen (Facebook’s whistleblower), Dr. Shapiro from AltaMed and Dalia Hashad, the badass behind advocacy group @parentstogether. I don’t think it’s a secret that social media has very adverse . . .

SoCal dad starter pack: 1. Billabong/Quiksilver board shorts purchased at a local warehouse sale 2. Tommy Bahama beach chair from Costco 3. Reef flip-flops 4. A sense of urgency that propels you to walk 10 feet in front of the rest of the group at all times. India killed it (get it?!) playing a dead ancestor in Addams Family this weekend. First school musical since 2019! There was a lot of disappointment and a lot of creative pivoting by the school to give them online performance opportunities over the past two years. But it was so good to see her back onstage with her friends in-person. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kristen Howerton . . .

Via my Texan friend @jenhatmaker: In shock & fury over Governor Abbott's order to the Texas Dept of Family & Protective Services to investigate all trans children in any stage of transition & report their parents, doctors, & healthcare workers as child abusers. He threatens "criminal penalties for failure to report" not just for licensed professionals who care for kids but "similar criminal penalties for members of the general public." In summation: Abbott has targeted one of . . .

Loved seeing these two boys walk in the Black History Parade with @100blackmenoc this weekend. They skipped the parade last year due to COVID so it was so nice to be back. Trying to choose a favorite musical is like trying to choose a favorite child, but Next to Normal is definitely in my top 3. I’ve wanted India to see it but it rarely tours so I was thrilled to find out @chancetheater was doing it. It was so good and just a little emotional (like, we might have gone outside during . . .
