Instagram Roundup

May 20, 2017

In case you missed it: a week's worth of happenings from the Instagram page... OH: "I'm alternatively sober." #mom2summit Rushing out to the Iris Awards. Not enough time to get ready. Running late. Forgot to pack hair spray. Feeling like crap. And then I tucked into a bathroom and saw @Dove's message on the mirror. Love their encouragement this week at #mom2summit. ❤️❤️ #RealBeauty Sweaty post-dance-floor selfie with this gem. @alphamom is one of . . .

A decision tree for wearing your butt-cheek-showing shorts this summer

May 18, 2017

graphic by the hilarious Jessi Sanfilippo Short shorts are all the rage this season. They are paired with flowing tops, they are deconstructed and ripped, and they are short enough to reveal both pocket linings and butt cheeks. I have seen them sported everywhere from the beach to Disneyland to my local taco stand, and no doubt it is What The Kids Are Wearing These Days. But not all fashion trends have to be observed. And I'm not sure this one should be. Of course, everyone is free to . . .

The perfect boho suummer dress

May 18, 2017

Can I recommend the perfect summer dress to you? I found this dress on Amazon and shared it on facebook a few weeks ago, and it's been so fun seeing friends loving it as well. A mom from school wore it for Easter. A friend bought it for his daughter. Fellow bloggers Stefania and Jess are rocking it. And I went to a conference recently and had several people ask . . . is that the dress? So funny. It's got a cute, bohemian vibe but it's soooo comfortable. Like a . . .

For the love of the island: our kitchen remodel

May 18, 2017

I've been wanting to share a before-and-after of the kitchen in our new (old) home. Last fall, we moved back into a home we had lived in before and kept it as a rental. I have absolutely no regrets about that decision. We are back in a neighborhood full of kids and friends, and it's a much better fit. A little smaller than our previous house but the time they spend outside with friends or in the pool means we don't even notice. There was one thing I was really, really sad to leave at our . . .

Wednesday’s Child: Giovanny

May 17, 2017

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

To all women, on Mother’s Day

May 14, 2017

Happy Mother's Day to those of you navigating relationships with toxic mothers. To those who have had to erect boundaries that leave you ambivalent or alone today. To those who walk down the card aisle for this day and look for something humorous because the emotional cards feel phony and sad given the reality you lived with. Happy Mother's Day to the foster mamas in the sticky, tricky place of not knowing if the child you are mothering today will be the child you are mothering this time . . .

That’s what SHE said: tips on upping your reading game, a thank you to the “big kids”, some delightful mother’s day things, and more . . . .

May 14, 2017

Here are some things I read this week that made me think. (These are just snippets - click on the title to read the whole thing.) Artist hides giants in the wilds of Copenhagen, luring seekers into nature from Melissa with Treehugger Some of the forgotten giants, like "Oscar Under The Bridge" reside in locations in which they can be seen from a distance; others – we're looking at you, Sleeping Louis – would be almost impossible to find if you didn't know where to look, Dambo tells me. "Most . . .
