A Knight to Remember | On Thursday’s I post from the vault. This post is from December 2009.
On Thursday's I post from the vault. This post is from December 2009. So, about Medieval Times. It was an epic birthday for Jafta. The entire time we were there I kept thinking about the part in The Cable Guy when they go to Medieval Times. I think Jafta's excitement made Jim Carrey's enthusiasm look like mere indifference. And you know Jafta showed up in full costume. I really had no desire to do a birthday at Medieval Times, but I also had no desire to plan any sort of party two days . . .

Take a run on the wild side | On Thursday’s I post from the vault. This post is from December 2009.
On Thursday's I post from the vault. This post is from December 2009. Running can be an adventure. Here are some highlights from my run today: 1. While stretching at the beginning of my run, I bend over and find myself nose-to-nose with something glittery. What is this gray, shimmering little oval? A Christmas ornament? Oh, wait . . . no. It's a CRACK PIPE. 2. I usually run along a river jetty to the beach. A river jetty is a nice way of saying describing a giant sewer of wasting water . . .
Wednesday’s Child: Trenton
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .
Ornamental helmet culture | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from November 2009
On Thursday's I post from the vault. This post is from November 2009. Karis was fitted for her cranial helmet last week, and it should be arriving next week. In a not-at-all-shocking turn of events, our insurance does not cover said helmet. So, for the price of a boob job, we will be footing the bill to make sure she has a well-rounded cranium. Hopefully this will boost her self-esteem enough to avoid that boob job down the road. Good thing we live in the OC. For now, I'm trying to figure . . .

But I'm especially proud of the new charity he founded . . . @knittherainbowinc. Austin learned there were a few nonprofits dedicated to providing services to LGBT youth facing houseing challenges in New York City. KtR hopes to educate people across the country about the housing crisis . . .
Make it work | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from October 2009.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from October 2009. Jafta is my crafty little kid. He is always coming up with creative solutions for the things he wants, and this often involves dressing up like someone else. Like when he was watching football with Mark, and he suddenly bolted out of the room and re-emerged with two rolls of toilet paper under his shirt, declaring himself a "USC football guy": And then, a few days later, he came up with a better solution, using his . . .

Catching up | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from October 2009.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from October 2009. We are slowly but surely settling back in from our whirlwind trip to Haiti last week. During the month of September, we somehow spent nearly as much time traveling as we did at home. My house, my work, my kids, my sleep, my email inbox, and my patience are all feeling the results of that. I am SO looking forward to a month of doing nothing. (Nothing other than raising three small children while working from home, of . . .
