The Asthmatics

November 17, 2008

No, this isn't the name of a new emo band. Jafta and I are, unfortunately, the asthmatics.Asthma is a weird thing. For us, it's something I totally forget about all spring and summer. Every year I think, wow, Jafta's asthma is totally gone! And then fall hits, and we are back to negotiating with the nebulizer.(Jafta watching Baby Einstein with his nebulizer at 7 months old)Having grown up with asthma, I know how gnarly some of those inhaled steroids are. I do my best to deal with his asthma (and . . .

Twighlight Madness

November 16, 2008

Okay, so I've gone over to the dark side, and been totally sucked into the Twighlight series. Yeah, that's right, the vampire books for high school girls. I'm on book 3, and despite my initial judgement, turns out I'm really enjoying it. Yes, it's adolescent literature. Yes, it's pretty much chic-lit porn for mormons. But somewhow, between the descriptions of Edward's velvety voice and chiseled muscles, there is a really really good story.I stumbled across this description on a hilarious blog . . .

Haiti is Haiti, even in New York

November 13, 2008

We took a little trip to the Haitian Consultate in New York today, because we needed a piece of paper "certified" to send to Haiti. We usually do this stuff by mail, but we thought this would save time and a little postage. The experience at the Haitian Consulate was classic. It was like a little slice of Haiti, right in New York City. When we arrived, there was a glass cubicle with three receptions sitting in it. They were all watching the tv in the waiting room, and the glass room seemed pretty . . .

We’re having a . . .

November 12, 2008

GIRL!!I am so excited. I was really, really hoping for a girl. Otherwise, we were going to have some space issues with three boys in one room! I have an ultrasound scheduled for December, but I just couldn't wait to find out. So I called one of those strip-mall ultrasound places this afternoon, and they got me in at 6:30pm! We took the kids in their pj's and watched our little girl doing sommersaults on the screen. It was so cute. Until the tech announced it was a girl -- Jafta was NOT pleased. . . .

November 10, 2008

We're home. We had a great trip. I've gots pictures and stories to post, but for now I'm gonna focus on reconnecting with my little cuties, who I missed like crazy while I was gone. I think they missed me too . . . but they sure had a fun time while we were gone. They couldn't stop talking about ice cream with Grandma and Grandpa and their slumber party with cousin Tanner.I love how close my kids are becoming, and it seems like they were just happy to be together and be with family this . . .

Fear Not

November 5, 2008

It's election night. Facebook is abuzz with people leaving their commentary on Obama's win, and here are some quotes from friends who were obviously looking for a different outcome:"I am moving out of the country""I am about to drive off a cliff""Come quickly, Lord Jesus""I feel like the floodgates of war have just been unlocked""I am buying a gun tomorrow""I hope American doesn't implode""I am fearful of things to come"Oh boy.Sorry to call you out, my dear Facebook friends. I'm sure you didn't . . .

Can We Still Be Pro-Life on November 5th?

November 3, 2008

It's an election year, and passions and opinions about the abortion debate are at an all-time high. People are extremely vocal about their views on protecting the unborn. In fact, it seems to be, for many, the single-most important factor in deciding who to vote for.I am pro-life, and I think all this conviction is great. But I wonder what it will look like on November 5th? Will we be as "pro-life" once the vote is cast? Where will all this energy go? Once the pro-life political email forwards . . .
