Real talk: I’m over taking phones or grounding my kids as consequences for stupid behavior because those things both punish ME. My new philosophy for consequences is to ask: 1. What can they learn from, and 2. How can they serve me. I’ve also been making a habit of long YouTube playlists that fit the issue. Ted Talks, motivational speeches, educational programming ... and I make it LONG and related to what they are struggling with. They they write an essay on what they learned. Also, . . .

Yo Mama | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from April 2009.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from April 2009 If only I had seen this ad campaign from American Apparel, the totally confusing and overpriced artsy/hipster clothing brand that all the cool kids are wearing these days. Turns out they make maternity! I could have been wearing a comfy and flattering one-piece for the last nine months. WITH leg warmers. This would have looked so awesome to wear to work. Okay, for real. Someone explain this to me, because I am too old. . . .
Wednesday’s Child: Faith and Ricky
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information . . .
Life Lately
Last night I had 11 teens/tweens sleeping in my house (three not pictured) and Jafta isn’t even in town. 😂 When Kembe tries to have a sleepover and the girls get involved .... It’s cute because you can’t hear it. (See my stories) First middle school dance India played her final basketball game yesterday. They didn’t win one game. They were beat, badly, in every game. But she and her friends had a blast. And she woke up, by herself, every morning to get to practice at . . .

This is an outrage!! (white people problems) | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from April 2009.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from April 2009 The other day, a letter came home from my son's preschool urging the parents to take action. The title of the letter was "This is an outrage!!". I was pretty curious to read it, since they rarely send non-preschool related letters home. What on earth could be so big a deal? As it turns out: suburban parking. My son's school is in a really nice, very expensive area of Orange County. (We do not live in this . . .

Life Lately
Last game of the season, hand still in a cast. Freshman year is hard. Made harder when the you have to massively adjust your expectations. Here’s hoping for less broken bones in the years ahead. Just a couple of 90’s kids. View this post on Instagram Every Halloween our neighbor feeds her snake a mouse for all the kids to watch.
