Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .
Life Lately
Last night some Californians joined some Texans on a real working ranch and we had the time of our lives. Actual things said out loud: “This is like Disneyland!” “What do you call these? Cows?” “Can we make bacon with the wild boars?” Whatever. ATV’s and target shooting and campfires and whiskey ... this city girl is into it. Annual girl’s weekend. Also with boys. And a baby. Happy place. Karis, sharing her “highs and lows” at the dinner table ... . . .

Someone’s gonna lose | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from June 2009.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from June 2009. I've been a mother to three small ones for six weeks now. This week, I seem to have kind of hit a wall. I'm so, so tired, The adrenaline has worn off, and the energy is waning. But the part that is really most frustrating to me is how little I am able to get done right now. For a type-A mama, ending the day with just as many items on the to-do list as I started with is NOT a great feeling. I'd been advised by lots of . . .

On security and being a single mom
This post is sponsored by Panasonic HomeHawk. When I became a single mom, there was a learning curve to be the solo adult in the house. I’d lived with someone else for so long, and we had developed our routines. I had to learn independence with certain things. For example - putting out the trash had always been my ex’s role. After weeks of hearing the trash truck drive by and realizing I’d forgotten yet again, I finally had to set a reminder on my phone to remember to do it. Safety was . . .
Life Lately
We tried to make a D&D cake for a teenage friend but it sort of looked like a satanic blood cake (swipe left for the full effect 😳). Also, dancing and singing while cooking is a familial trait but I have no explanation for their obsession with preschool tv show jingles. Green tea mochi and a new episode of The Good Place is Karis’s idea of living her best life. Ramen! 👏👏 Repost @whitesugarbrownsugar ・・・ We’re at the store and spot a display of little baby . . .

Poop In A Box | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009. Who doesn’t love a mystery story? (People eating their lunch right now, that’s who. Blatant crap talk to follow. If you are squeamish, go look at this instead). Yesterday when I went to retrieve India from her nap I noticed a strong odor eminating from her room. It was poop, to be sure, but the smell was just a bit more permeating than usual. I also noticed immediately that she was wearing a swim diaper under her dress . . .
