Using Give Inkind to organize care for loved ones

August 6, 2021

Last week, I shared about a loss that had happened in our family. When it happened, I knew I wanted to help. I think that’s an impulse most of us feel when people we love are in pain. We want to do something to be of service. So I immediately offered to help organize a fundraiser for my nephew and his wife, who had experienced a terrible loss, but who were also struggling to pay for the medical bills that preceded losing their son. I quickly started to do some research on the best platform . . .

BIRTHDAY SURPRISES | ON THURSDAY’S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM JANUARY 2011.

August 5, 2021

ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM JANUARY 2011. Today was my birthday.  I spent the entire day thinking that I was turning 37 today.  I gave quite a bit of thought about the fact that I am no longer mid-thirties.  I thought about how old 37 seemed, and how brief life was, and the ways I wanted to be different as I enter my LATE THIRTIES (dun dun DUNNNNN).  This age just really felt like a milestone. Around 11pm tonight, a friend pointed out that I am 36 today, not 37.  If . . .

Wednesday’s Child: Ja’Mya

August 4, 2021

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

Life Lately

August 2, 2021

Gen Z fashion is a throwback delight. Straight out of the 90's all the way down to the cross-body bag, Clueless skirts, lace tights and waist-wrapped flannel. Just waiting for them to discover Rocket Dog Platform slides. Fifteen minutes after my "I need you to do anything but watch more tv" monologue. When you open up the attic of the home you owned for 20 years and find out that not one, but two of your bathrooms in your house have exhaust fan so that vent into....nothing. Just sucking . . .

Remembering Tremaine

August 1, 2021

A few weeks ago my family endured a terrible loss. If you've followed me for a long time, you've probably seen me post about my nephews. Before I had kids, they used to visit us in the summers. Now, they are grown men. Derek is married and he and his wife welcomed their 4th child this spring. A forth boy! His big brothers were so excited and the kids and I could not wait to meet him. A few weeks ago, they lost him unexpectedly when he was found unresponsive after a nap. Paramedics were able to . . .
