Just get pregnant, then you’ll adopt

October 2, 2008

Most women who have any sort of fertility issues have heard this statement before:"Just adopt, and then you'll get pregnant."I get this one a lot. Especially since it pretty much happened that way. And now here we are, adopting and expecting again, too. So I get why people say it. It's one of those things people just kind of say. A conversation piece, I guess. Now, if you are reading this and you've said this to me, don't worry. You are not alone or a bad person. Someone says this to me a couple . . .

The Therapist Is In: Conflict Resolution for Toddlers

September 29, 2008

My kids are getting to an age where they are both fighting an awful lot. They fight over toys, over sippy cups, over chairs . . . you name it. India is just about to turn 2, and many times the fights are just completely illogical. For example: India was claiming that Jafta's blue blanket was hers (which she knows to be untrue and yet seems to enjoy the drama). Jafta, in his 3-year-old need for justice, argued just as vehemently that the blanket was, indeed, his own. This repeats itself, with . . .

Every Man For Himself

September 29, 2008

I mentioned before how my kids have started putting on shows that don't really go anywhere. The good news is that they have added a wee bit of actual content to the shows, instead of just setting up chairs and doing nothing. India is trying to sing a song. Jafta . . . well, I'm not totally sure what Jafta is doing here. I think he's pretending to make the sounds of a bass guitar. But then he uses the remote as a violin bow? Hmmm.I think they need to collaborate a little. They are upstaging each . . .

Your Congress At Work

September 27, 2008

I have become increasingly cynical about politics over the last few weeks. Our government is asking us to foot the bill for a huge bailout of campiagn-financing big businesses who mismanaged money? I find this ridiculous. Mark and I have been watching the story unravel with so much frustration. Today a website called opensecrets.org revealed that the four congressmen deciding the fate of this bailout have received millions of dollars in contributions from the companies they are going to save . . .

If You Love Someone, Set Them Free

September 26, 2008

A couple weeks ago, we got the kids their own caterpillars. Jafta named his Cooper, and they became fast friends. Jafta played with him, sang to him, and talked about him all the time. He took him to his class for show & tell. Cooper is the first thing he runs to when he comes home. A few days ago, Cooper made the transformation into a butterfly. Since that time, Cooper has tried to escape his "Butterfly Habitat" at every opportunity. Cooper is so ready to fly the coop. And I know that . . .

Good Sport

September 25, 2008

Jafta had his first t-ball practice last week. It was so cute. He was so excited about it, and did a great job. I can't believe how these coaches managed 20+ three-year-olds. Jafta hung on every word his coach said, and has been asking to go back every day.I was a little worried about how this class would go for home. At home, Jafta gets really frustrated when he can't do something perfectly right away. He loves sports - ALL SPORTS - and wants to be able to play them just like daddy can. (I . . .

Sibling Rivalry Starts Early

September 24, 2008

The ultrasound videotape of our little peanut was sitting on the table, and India got her hands on it. Luckily I discovered her before the tape was completely destroyed. A little passive aggressive, don't you think? . . .

Jailbreak

September 24, 2008

My morning (all day) sickness has been so bad this week that I have barely left the house. Barely left the sofa, to be honest. Yesterday I was feeling pretty down about it. Mark bought a new bike, and he tried out our new bike seat with the kids. As they rode away, I started bawling. Partly because I'm hormonal. But partly because it's been weeks since I've been able to do something fun with my family. I feel like I am missing out, and I'm feeling a little sorry for myself.Tonight I finally got . . .

My Thoughts Exactly

September 22, 2008

Jafta has figured out that I'm pregnant. I haven't said anything yet, so I'm not sure if someone told him, or if he's just suspicious of my growing belly. For 10 weeks pregnant, I somehow look 6 months pregnant. Anyways, on our way home from preschool today, he asked me if there was a baby growing in my tummy. I told him yes. And then he asked me what kind of baby it was going to be. "A new baby", I said. And Jafta replied:"OH!! I want it to be Keanan! I want to go see Keanan tonight and bring . . .

Jafta’s Feelings on the Economic Downturn

September 22, 2008

He was a little devstated by the stock market crash, but he and India are doing their best to diversify into a more conservative bank option. . . .
