This one. Totally addicted to iced Americanos. (It’s decaf!) Anyone else keep a jar of random foreign currency leftover from trips? My kids like to look at it and figure out the origin. Swipe left for the one we can’t figure out. Where’s that from?? I’m huge fan of subscription boxes and have tried several that tout themselves as “the Stitch Fix for kids.” But now, there actually is a Stitch Fix for kids! The company I’ve used for 5+ years is now styling boxes for . . .

Pressed Down on All Sides
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2008. Today was a hard day. I'm feeling pretty taxed in every way possible. I am emotionally drained. Visiting Keanan is hard. It is always a relief to see how well he is cared for. But it's also disheartening how uncomfortable he is with us. I know that it is normal, and even developmentally appropriate, that he isn't jumping into our arms. We showed up enthusiastic, excited and smothering, and he reacted. He wanted nothing to do . . .
Wednesday’s Child: Michael
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

Life Lately
Yesterday I was finally able to finish laying the flooring to the entrance of my house, which has looked like a construction zone for nearly a year. It’s amazing how much peace I feel with everything back in place. And update on the white walls: they are growing on me. Take-away’s from last nights neighborhood cocktail hour: 1) I have the best neighbors 2) I cannot drink white wine for four hours without paying for it the next day. Ouch. I don’t ever ground my children. I just . . .

The Paradox of Haiti
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2008. We have finally arrived in Haiti. It's really hard to describe Haiti. It is exactly like you see on tv, and nothing like you see on tv. It continues to be a country plagued by violence, political unrest, unemployment, hunger, and abject poverty. This has lead to a culture of dishonestly as a coping strategy, on large and small scales. There is a desperation that gives way to crime. There are kidnappings for ransom. People are . . .
