come on, baby, finish what you started . . .
I don't know what is with me and blogging these days. I can't seem to finish a coherent thought. Probably due to pregnancy brain soup, combined with two small children, combined with time-sucking avoidance techniques for managing the stress of a long adoption (i.e. facebook and blog stalking). I think about writing all the time, and I even start posts with the best of intentions. In fact, I can't even tell you how many "drafts" I have saved right now that I need to finish. I had lots to say . . .
Donations for Haiti
Mark and Jafta leave for Haiti in one week. As usual, we are going to try to take lots of donations in with us, because it’s the best way to get the missionaries new supplies. We have two big suitcases we need to fill! I know this is last minute, but if you are local and want to help, I will be collecting these donations all weekend. Our garage will be a collection center on Saturday and Sunday if you want to swing by. Some of this stuff you may have used, and other items can be purchased for . . .
Keanan Update
Thanks so much for praying for Keanan in Haiti. I don't have much to update. I know he is still in the hospital. I know that doctors in US hospitals are often hard to pin down for updates, and I think it's even more true in Haiti. I know they changed his medications recently and took x-rays of his foot and lungs. I know that he is being well cared for by a good nanny. I know that I would like him to be out of the hospital soon! . . .
Jafta Solves the Haiti Process
Here's a fun little stream-of-conciousness, as a shirtless Jafta eats a ring pop he got at a birthday party. India was napping and daddy was gone, so we had a long heart-to-heart that I just had to capture on film. First he starts talking about the baby, then quickly to asking why Kembert (Keanan) can't come home when they visit. Then he has a lightbulb: fhe Haitian guys are doing paperwork! That's what is holding things up. So insightful. And just as quickly, he's back to discussing the fact . . .
Oh Yeah, We Havin’ Church, Ain’t Goin’ No Where
Need a little church this fine Sunday morning?Seriously, if the church choir I grew up with did anything close to this, I just might still be wearing those choir robes and sitting in front of the baptismal today. Emerging Church, Schmerging Church. This is where it's at, yo: . . .
a mini-meltdown and a prayer request
I am having a hard night tonight. Our little guy in Haiti, Keanan, is in the hospital. He has a really bad infection in his foot. It's a bacterial infection, probably staph or something like it. Bacterial infections can be nasty to battle even in the US. Could you please pray that the antibiotics work quickly, and that the infection will go away for good and not require any further intervention? He was admitted on Thursday, and I've been trying to take it in stride. But tonight it just kind of . . .
Do’s and Don’t For Sending Racially Insensitive Emaill Forwards
Earlier this week, one of the mayor's in Orange County was busted for sending this photo to a list of people in his email contacts, with the following caption:"No Easter egg hunt at the White House this year"Since Mr. Grose appears to be in need of some guidance on how to conduct himself, I offer my handy list of tips for what to do when you get caught sending a racially insensitive email:1. Stop sending racially offensive emails. No matter how funny they are, the little chuckle you get at the . . .
the young poet’s society
I bought The Book of Virtues: A Treasury of Great Moral Stories years ago, back when I was a grad student and children were just a faint idea in a distant future. I loved this collection of classic stories, and recently as I was going through my books, I rediscovered it and thought it would be great to introduce it to my kids. We have started reading portions of it to the kids at night, and at mealtimes. I could go on and on about this book, and a part of me is tempted to just stop writing . . .
the follow-up show
Here's a little update on some of the things going around here:The Black dolls: I would like to give a big shout-out to all the diversity-adverse moms in Orange County. Thanks to your racial preference in doll shopping, I was able to snag the HSM Taylor and Chad doll set on clearance at Target for only $5.74. But there are plenty of blonde Sharpay and Ryan sets still available for $24.99!The MILF tee: True confession - I wear it. A lot. Along with all the other tacky message tees I've gotten as . . .
the woozy ultrasound
I am 32 weeks today. It's hard to believe I'm so close to meeting my baby girl. Then again, I feel like I have been pregnant forever and cannot believe it's possible I could get any MORE pregnant. I am huge. Really, huge. I get the pleasure of random people telling me that on a daily basis. "Wow, you look ready to pop!" I may pop the next person who tells me that.Today I had an ultrasound, for the sole purpose of determining why I am so HUGE. I am measuring big, but the ultrasound revealed there . . .
