Michael Ian Black: | Despicable We Rarely do we know more about each other than the public faces we present to the world. The private person can be very different. The question I’ve been asking myself, though, is which is the “real” person? It’s a question I’ve been asking about a lot of people during this horrible political season we’re experiencing, in particular myself. fashionista
Karis loves to dress herself, and she was quite proud of this ensemble. It’s pink leggings, with a red tank top of India’s followed by an inside-out leotard of an entirely different shade of pink (complete with awkward nude lining). She asked me to take a picture, and made this pose. “I’m showing that I’m SO STRONG.” Work it, girl. . . .
what does jason russell’s meltdown mean for the #kony2012 movement?
I was a bit shocked today to see the announcement of Jason Russell’s detainment for alleged public intoxication and masturbation [edited to add: recent reports indicate he was naked but not masturbating]. It’s all over twitter so I can only imagine it will be all over the news tonight. My first response was frustration – this guy is obviously putting his credibility in major jeopardy, not to mention the entire #Kony2012 movement that has already been under such intense scrutiny. white privilege and the impulse to help: some thoughts on #Kony2012
You’ve probably already seen links to the online film Kony 2012. The 30-minute documentary produced by Invisible Children has gone viral, and #KONY2012 has been trending on twitter for days. Of course, as with anything that garners immediate and national publicity, there has been some criticism as well. Several people have asked for my thoughts on the matter, and I thought I’d weigh in. But first, here’s the video. You really should watch it if you haven’t yet. . . .
banana almond oatmeal milkshake (gluten-free, dairy-free)
Is it a smoothie? Or a milkshake? I’m not quite sure, but this is my go-to breakfast most mornings. It’s quick and easy, and the oatmeal makes it surprisingly filling. At just under 200 calories, it’s a great low-fat, vegan breakfast option. You’re gonna need: 1 Banana 1 Cup Almond Milk 2 TBSP Oatmeal 1 Cup Ice 1 TSP Stevia (optional) I use unsweetened Almond Breeze and McCann’s, but if you have celiac you will want an oatmeal that is certified gluten-free. . . .
the bachelor finale recap you’ve all been waiting for!
Who does Ben pick? Is Courtney as “low-drama” as she claims? Will Lindzi ever forgive her mother for spelling her name like that? Will Courtney learn to open her mouth when she talks? And did Ben really kiss those other girls after he proposed on the show? It's all . . .
what I want you to know: hope and healing for attachment disorders – an interview with an adopted child and her mom
What I Want You to Know is a series of reader submissions. It is an attempt to allow people to tell their personal stories, in the hopes of bringing greater compassion to the unique issues each of us face. If you would like to submit a story to this series, click here. Today’s guest posts is by Marty. It has been so interesting to watch my daughter S transform and then watch her new brother M doing all the stick poking she used to do. (And occasionally reverts back to when she is under . . .
a (free) glorious mess
My brother-in-law is a fantastic writer and all-around smart guy (no bias, of course). He’s written a new book called Glorious Mess: Encountering God's Relentless Grace for Imperfect People. I think is an important message in a world where The Church is often full of shame and judgment. Mike is reminding us that God can use us in the midst of our own mess. His book is available for download on Kindle today FOR FREE . . . so if you have one of those fancy contraptions, check it . . .
things that are better in retrospect
There are a few parenting moments that I’ve been hoping and dreaming about since before I even had kids. One of them was reading through the Little House Series series with a daughter. I loved these books as a kid, and couldn’t wait for my kids to be old enough to read it to them. Well, that day has finally come. Mark bought the series recently and we decided the kids were ready. I didn’t know how the boys would respond, since my children are basically little . . .
that’s what SHE said: finding purpose, declaring war on all children, ending the R word, taking back the S word, and more . . .
What abides. Cultivating purpose and passion beyond family | Planting Dandelions When you are in the middle of family life, it’s so easy to lose sight of that constant. My children feel like my passion and my purpose, but their childhood will pass, and is passing, like all things. My husband is the love of my life, but our eventual parting is written into our marriage vows. What will one or the other of us live for, then?
