Adoption Delays | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009.

December 23, 2019

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009.   We are running into more delays with Haiti. This one really felt like a punch to the gut. I'm not sure why - by this point I should be more prepared for the insanity that is adoption from Haiti. The only thing that is predictable in this process is that nothing goes smoothly. We are now almost two years into this process. When we first started out, I thought Keanan would certainly be home by now. I had his name . . .

Life Lately

December 23, 2019

Me at 1pm: For real, no sleepovers tonight. Me at 11pm: Okay but everyone has to go right to sleep... Do I have enough rust-colored tops from Target Y/N? A note about your divorced friends this holiday season. It's possible it sucks for them. It's possible they are having to swallow down tears because they have to spend their holidays with a toxic person in order to allow their kids to have both parents present for their celebrations. A note about your divorced friends this holiday season.

It's possible they aren't invited . . .

Why it matters | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009.

December 19, 2019

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009. This brought tears to my eyes the minute I saw it. A young boy visiting the White House asks to touch the president's hair to see if it felt the same as his. I have heard some cynical people balk at the big deal some made of having our first Black president. This picture illustrates why it is a big deal for some. When my son pretends to be a prince but then says he can't because his hair is "not like a prince's hair", or . . .

Wednesday’s Child: Jonah

December 18, 2019

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

Life Lately

December 16, 2019

I took brussel sprouts to a potluck. They were delicious and now my car smells like farts. Just gonna have to light it on fire I think. Goodbye 2013 Toyota Sienna. Carnitas by #foodiejafta I  just had a “mosh pit etiquette” talk with a child who is being dropped at his first adult concert. He was unimpressed with my experience and wisdom on this matter. In other news, I taught a child to peg her jeans. Wisdom and experience mildly appreciated here. Cotillion: came for the awkward . . .
