This post is sponsored by Talkspace. I have mentioned before that in my 20s and 30s, I worked as a licensed marriage and family therapist doing counseling with individuals, families, and couples. It was a job I really enjoyed, because I truly believe in the value of therapy and that it can change lives and free people from unhealthy patterns of behavior and ways of thinking. My husband is also a marriage and family therapist, in full-time private practice here in California. We have often . . .
#TBT: PRESS RELEASE: Popular Blogger Rushed to Infirmary at Epcot
On Thursdays I post something from the archives. This is from June 2012. I’ve recently learned that it is now practice for bloggers to write a self-promoting press release when something bad happens . . . like this one. YOU GUYS. Something bad happened to me, too. Famed author of Rage Against the Minivan falls ill on space simulation ride Kristen Howerton, famed blogger at Rage Against the Minivan, was spending the day at Disney’s Epcot theme park with her family, . . .
Wednesday Child: James
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

Questions of eternal significance: What is your favorite age?
If you are a mom, or spend a lot of time around kids, do you have a favorite age?I have always loved 5-year-olds. Even before I had kids, it was my favorite age group. I taught the 5-year-old Sunday school class at my church when I was in high school, and during my brief stint as a substitute teacher kindergarten was always my favorite class to get. I have loved this age with my kids, too. It's such a sweet age because they are still so cute and cuddly - missing teeth and cute mispronunciations . . .

Mama said: Dealing with sibling rivalry
The sibling rivalry in my house has really amped up this year, so this question from a reader was very relevant. Sarah and I talk about how we are dealing with contentious siblings. Any ideas for us? . . .
That’s what SHE said: social media and envy, our parents’ partying ways, attention-policing, and more . . .
This post by Erin Loechner about social media and its tendency to breed envy and discontent is one of the best things I've read in a long time: "We know we’re not supposed to grocery shop when hungry. We know the result – a cart full of empty choices that make us salivate but will not nourish. And yet, we do this every day, right here. We blink at the screen, our thumbs scrolling down, down, down. Another sunset. Another macaroon. Another fiddle leaf fig tree.We are starving, our hunger . . .
