My faith journey has been a long and winding road. You’ve probably heard it before: parents in the ministry, conservative upbringing, youthful devotion, youthful rebellion. Then, a return to faith as a young adult followed by a return to disillusionment as a young adult. My husband, Mark, used to be a full-time pastor. Today he works elsewhere, and we’ve left the church our family attended for 15 years. We have yet to find another church home. Our regular church attendance has decreased to once . . .
What I want you to know about having my “own” child
What I Want You to Know is a series of reader submissions. It is an attempt to allow people to tell their personal stories, in the hopes of bringing greater compassion to the unique issues each of us face. If you would like to submit a story to this series, click here. Today’s guest post is by Dawn. My husband and I have been the proud foster parents to BB for 6 months, and she is now almost 2 years old. As we share our story about fostering BB, many people question if . . .
A day in LA
This post is sponsored by GoGo squeeZ My sister and her family are in town for a week, and so we are doing the obligatory “act like tourists in our own hometown” thing. We’ve been to the beach, In and Out, and today we took a drive up to LA to visit The Grove, an outdoor shopping mecca. GoGo squeeZ was hosting an event there so we popped in to let the kids experience their Goodness Machine. Specially designed by a NASA engineer, the Goodness Machine is a giant “pouch” that launches a GoGo . . .
A Fair to Remember
On Thursdays I post from the archives. This is from July 2009. I am slowly recovering from the Frenzy of Fair we were involved in last week. I am sitting here trying to think of how to explain what lead me to the fair, not once, but TWICE, in one week. Really, I have nothing to say for myself. Mostly I blame Rosie, my housekeeper. Rosie cleans my house twice a month on Wednesday mornings, in order to keep me from divorcing my husband arguing with Mark about the division of labor in . . .
Wednesday’s Child; Milton
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

QOES: How often do you shave your legs?
Women, and men for that matter, can have very strong opinions about shaving. What to shave. When to shave. How far up to shave. Waxing vs. razors. Some people are year-round shavers. Some are seasonal. Source I actually shave every single day. No matter what. For me it's not a vanity thing. It's a sensory thing. I don't like the feeling of my legs touching stubble. Prickly hair against my jeans? No thank you. It makes me feel gross. Doesn't even matter where I am or what I'm doing. Camping, . . .
On blue hair and saying yes
Over the summer I tend to take an “anything goes” approach to my kids’ hair and let them choose a fun color. I’ve been doing this since India was in kindergarten, when she started begging for blue hair. I let her do a few streaks, and she was thrilled. This summer, they both wanted to do color again. India wanted pink tips and Karis wanted some blue. We used Jerome Russell’s Punky Colour in Flamingo Pink and Turquoise. I’m sure there is a more professional way to color the tips, . . .
