Our mother/daughter Disney World trip

May 8, 2016

This past week the girls and I took a couple days to get away to Orlando and visit the Disney parks along with the Social Media Moms celebration. It's a great conference that involves bloggers and their families having fun at all of the Disney properties.  I've been to this event with my whole family in previous years, but this year I only took the girls along. I get opportunities to do press trips from time to time. Sometimes only one child is invited, and other times I just can't . . .

TBT: 6 kinds of parents teachers Love

May 5, 2016

On Thursdays I post from the vault. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, here is a post from October 2014. Most of our kids are settling back into the school routine and adjusting to their new teachers. I’ve written before about what kind of school parent I am, and in one episode of Mama Said, Sarah and I discussed my ambivalence about volunteering in their classrooms. Short story, I think a lot about what my kids’ teachers think of me. When I discuss my own parenting style with . . .

Wednesday’s Child: Rex

May 4, 2016

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

How to turn your backyard grill into a pizza oven

May 3, 2016

This post is sponsored by BakerStone Pizza Oven Box. Last week we had the chance to try the BakerStone Pizza Oven Box. It's an ingenious pizza oven that sits on top of a conventional grill. We decided to try it out, and figured it was as good of an excuse as any to have some friends over for a little DIY pizza night.   My kids love making their own pizza. I have picky kids who stick to just cheese, and then there is Jafta, who is prone to loading his pizza up with every topping . . .

#TBT: the 15 steps of packing for a family vacation

April 28, 2016

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This is from Nov 2012  We are gearing up for our big Peru trip this weekend, and I’m a teensy bit stressed. The fact that I like to procrastinate doesn’t help matters, and I typically end up in a self-fueling loop of non-helpful avoidance behaviors any time I need to seriously pack for a big trip. It goes a little something like this: 1. Make a list 2. Get suitcases out of garage 3. Go on facebook 4. Decide to pack, look for list, realize list . . .

Up for Debate: Talking Politics with Paul Martin (Ep. 10)

April 28, 2016

He's conservative. I'm liberal. And we are trying to have a civil discussion about the election. It's 4/26/16 and my friend Paul Martin and I are talking about this week's primaries, whether or not Sanders is playing dirty, the Cruz/Kasich alliance against Trump, and more . . . . . .
