Life Lately

June 14, 2021

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Kristen Howerton (@kristenhowerton) Someone grabbed some “sunscreen” on the way out the door and applied it and fell asleep on the beach in the hot sun and is in a world of pain for the next couple of days. 😬 Yes, she chose to wear a power suit and heels to her elementary school graduation. And yes, she decided to play on the swingset one last time before we . . .

WEEKEND FOR SANITY | ON THURSDAY’S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM OCTOBER 2010.

June 10, 2021

ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM OCTOBER 2010. I am in Washington, DC for the weekend.  I would love to rationalize this trip as having some great purpose.  But I am not speaking, or working, or doing anything of intention.  I really have no business being here at all.  But . . . I am a huge Jon Stewart fan.  I have been for years.  Mark has known this about me since we were dating, and he has been very gracious with my potentially inappropriate crush on someone . . .

Wednesday’s Child – Kentrayvious, Alvin, and Allissa

June 9, 2021

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

WHAT YOU CAN DO | ON THURSDAY’S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM OCTOBER 2010.

June 3, 2021

ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM OCTOBER 2010. I’ve written pretty passionately about the global orphan situation recently, and several commenters asked: “What can I do if I’m not in a position to adopt?” I’m so glad you asked.  Adoption is not for everyone.  Nor is it the answer to the world’s orphan crisis.  In the best of circumstances, adoption creates a loving family for a child who has been orphaned.  But it does not address the root causes of why a . . .

Life Lately

May 31, 2021

Multiple-mimosa brunch with some of my favorites. Missed opportunity that none of us made a peace sign. I blame the mimosas. Our rental car got canceled for our whole trip (thanks @hertz!). We’ll make the best of it, we said. We’ll walk, we said! Cut to us getting caught in a massive thunderstorm 20 minutes from where we’re staying. We are now drowned rats with no car. First post-pandemic vacation without the kids is going great, thanks for asking! Doing another @homeexchangecom this . . .

A WEEKEND IN PHOTOS: OJAI TO OC | ON THURSDAY’S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM OCTOBER 2010.

May 27, 2021

ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM OCTOBER 2010. A WEEKEND IN PHOTOS: OJAI TO OC OCTOBER 21, 2010 I got to spent two days at an amazing retreat this past weekend, and I’ve finally had time to upload my photos (and to steal the photos of Mark’s weekend). The Creative Alliance at Calliote Canyon was an amazing experience.  I’m not even sure how to write about the awesomeness.  Sure, I could tell you about the food, and the wine, and the late night . . .
