13 Gross Things All Moms Do
“Mom!? Gross!” I can’t tell you how many times I said that as a child. I said it as a teenager, too, only with an exaggerated eye roll. Mothers did a lot of disgusting things, including my own, and I swore I’d never do those things when I had my own children. I am a liar. As the mother of four kids, all four within a few years in age — I have from time-to-time found myself reverting to those disgusting behaviors I’d seen my own mother do. And other mothers. All mothers everywhere, for . . .
How to make facebook’s changes slightly less annoying
Over the past few weeks facebook has rolled out some changes, which have been met with some grumbling. By some mystery matrix, facebook is choosing which posts show up in your news feed, rather than just serving up status updates as they come. The result is that older status updates are showing up at the top, and others aren’t showing up at all. I’ve been frustrated to see the same status updates at the top of the news feed that were there hours before. I already read that! Why is it showing up . . .
That’s what SHE said: being color-brave, magical childhoods, singers on a plane, and more . . .
Be color brave, not color blind | Melody Hobson at TED2014 It’s time,” says Hobson, “for us to be comfortable with the uncomfortable conversation about race. If we truly believe in equal rights and equal opportunity in America, we need to have real conversations about this issue. We can’t be color blind, we have to be color brave.” Why should we be color brave, raising the question instead of ducking it? “Not just because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it’s the smart thing to . . .

Questions of eternal significance: how do you hang your toilet paper?
I've tackled some pretty controversial stuff this past week, but here's a debate I'm not sure we can survive. My friend Melanie waded into this territory last week and her readers were quite passionate in their views. Here we go: Toilet paper. Over or under? You guys, I have to admit. I don't really have a dog in this fight. I really don't care what way it's hung. I don't even notice. I couldn't even tell you what way ours is hanging as I typed this. (Okay, I looked. I . . .
Wednesday’s Child: R.J. in Louisville
Every Wednesday I share about a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

I And Love And You: Get a coupon, feed a shelter dog
I've always been pretty intentional in making sure my kids eat healthy. So when we got a dog, naturally I wanted to give her healthy food as well. I went to Target and got what appeared to be the best food on the shelves, but Roxy didn't seem very excited about it. In fact, I noticed that she was thrilled to get any kind of protein scraps from us, but her food would go ignored. A couple days later, I joked on facebook that she kind of had a "dog smell." I was kidding but it was true . . . . . .
