Here are some of things I read this week that made me think. (These are just snippets – click on the title to read the whole thing). The Line Between a Safe Driver and a Dangerous One Is Just a Single Hour of Sleep from Cari at The Science of Us “According to one study, staying awake for 18 hours straight can cause the same cognitive impairment as a blood alcohol level of 0.05; at 24 hours, it’s closer to a blood alcohol level of 0.1, more than the legal limit for driving.” 9 Signs That You . . .

Yes, we moved. Again.
I haven’t necessarily been keeping it a secret. It’s just that I haven’t really taken the time to sit down and explain it. But if you follow me on instagram or facebook, I’m sure you’ve noted that we just moved again. And there have been a lot of questions as to why. I’m going to try to answer some of them, but there are other aspects of this decision that I’m not keen to put online. If you would like to hear more, I’d love you to subscribe to my newsletter. I will be writing more candidly there . . .
Instagram Roundup
A review of all of the things you might have missed on Instagram this week.... Greater love has no one than this: that a mother lay down her hatred of bottle flipping to give this to a child on Christmas morning. #TBT: Kids responding to gifts: where honesty and kindness collide
On Thursdays I bring back a post from the archives. This is from December 2014. We’ve all experienced it, though I’m not sure anyone has come up with a name for it. The Christmas Cringe? The Seasonal Squirm? Mortified Yuletide? Whatever we call it, it's that moment when your child gets a gift from a well-meaning family member...and it immediately becomes clear that your child won’t like the gift. Maybe they already have one. Or it was last year's popular toy and has lost its appeal. Or . . .

Wednesday’s Child: Dakota
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .
An update on what’s going on around here
I haven’t been doing as much personal blogging in the past year or so as I used to do. It’s a combination of factors. First, I seem to have gotten out of the habit of just narrating our daily lives. I tend to feel the need for what I write to have a bit more substance than the goings-ons of our days, which means I also tend to get a little paralyzed unless I feel like I’ve got an idea wrapped up from beginning to middle to end. I don’t do as much casual stream-of-consciousness writing as I used . . .
