This post is sponsored by Tarkett NA. In the ongoing saga of updating my house . . . this week I tackled the garage. Unfortunately, home prices in Southern California are at a premium, which means that we have to use every square inch of space that we’ve got. As a family of four kids, finding the space for instruments and desks can be a challenge, not to mention the suitcases, sleeping bags, and random crap one needs to store. So I don't park my car in the garage, and have wanted to turn it . . .

Progress on the kitchen/living room remodel
My kitchen remodel has definitely been a "hurry up and wait" process. I did a structural remodel when I moved in almost two years ago, moving the cabinets around to create an island and open up the kitchen to the rest of the room. Here is what it looked like before: Rather than an island, the original kitchen had a wall with pantries and a refrigerator. The result is that I couldn’t see anyone in the living room while I was in the kitchen . . . so the kids ended up plopping on the floor . . .
The Therapist Is In: Conflict Resolution for Toddlers || On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from September 2008.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from September 2008. My kids are getting to an age where they are both fighting an awful lot. They fight over toys, over sippy cups, over chairs . . . you name it. India is just about to turn 2, and many times the fights are just completely illogical. For example: India was claiming that Jafta's blue blanket was hers (which she knows to be untrue and yet seems to enjoy the drama). Jafta, in his 3-year-old need for justice, argued just as . . .
Wednesday’s Child: Sterling
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

Fashion has a dirty secret: the products we enjoy are most often made by women who can’t meet their basic needs. Barrett is trying to change that by publishing the wages of everyone in the chain of making a product, and encouraging other companies to do the . . .
Life Lately
He wanted sparkly nails. His sister obliged. Was just gifted this giant coffee table from a friend who thought it was copper. It had turned completely black. But I’ve started cleaning it. And it looks more yellow than copper. Brass? Bronze? Also the patina is black, not green like copper. And lastly, how do I clean it? Getting this much black off took me about an hour with a copper scrub and I’ve got a lot more to go ... it’s almost 5’x5’. Two and a half days in NYC and I managed to pack . . .

Forever 21, Why Do You Hate Me? | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from August 2008.
On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from August 2008. Dear Sir ('cause I know a woman would not be behind this): I have an issue with the sizing at your store. I know, I know. The name of your store should be a warning. I'm not 21 - not even close. I know that my needs could be better met in a store called "Forever Mid-Thirties". Or "Despereately Clinging to My Youth". But still, your budget prices and sassy fashions beckon me in again and again. During my . . .
