Wednesday’s Child: Junior needs a family to guide him after high school

June 14, 2023

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Kristen Howerton (@kristenhowerton) I was foster mom to Jafta for 3 years before his adoption was finalized. Three years of wondering . . . will I be the mom at his milestones? Will I get to see this baby I adore graduate from high school, go to college, or get married? I remember the lullaby I sang to Jafta in those years, because they were . . .

June 8, 2023

ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM SEPTEMBER 2011. I got back from Mighty Summit yesterday and I’m in the midst of unpacking (literally and figuratively).  It was an incredible weekend that I hope to write about more in detail, once I’ve had the chance to reconnect with the kids, upload my photos, and dig myself out of a serious email black hole.  For now, I’m posting pictures of our big night out with the boys at the Weezer show last week. I was thrilled to see Weezer . . .

HOMELESS, HIPSTER, OR REDNECK: A GUIDE TO DISTINGUISHING THE YOUNGER GENERATION | ON THURSDAY’S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM SEPTEMBER 2011.

June 1, 2023

ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM SEPTEMBER 2011. I remember as a teenager that my mother was often aghast and confused at the things I found fashionable.  This seemed especially true whenever one of those trends was a throw-back to something she had an association with from her own childhood.  When I went through a bohemian phase, I remember her asking me why I would want to dress like a hippie, the word hippie dripping off her tongue with the same contempt that one . . .

Life Lately

Wearing the hat of a hometown restaurant while tubing in Austin and realizing that out of context it just looks like a hat advertising a place called “dick church” @dickchurchs My senior opted to skip prom while the sophomores got invites from upperclassmen friends. Kembe borrowed everything he’s wearing and India’s dress arrived from amazon the day before, which she changed into in the car on the way from work to taking photos. But I think they cleaned up pretty nice regardless! Word on . . .
