Life Lately
We’ve decided to do more exploring of LA as we wait this pandemic out. (We have nothing else to do!) Last night we explored Echo Park ... we did a food crawl (empanadas and taco trucks and farmers market snacks and açaí bowls and cinnamon buns) and we wandered into book stores and sneaker shops and cursed our luck at the thrift store closing just as we arrived. Then we hit up this little spot across town for the ‘gram. What neighborhood should we explore next? View . . .

Hone and happy with the smell of beach bonfire in our hair. Making the most of warm winter days View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kristen Howerton (@kristenhowerton) Almost a year into learning to do everyone’s hair in this house, including my own very white roots, and my bathroom looks like I am ready to open a salon. Marker earrings are this season’s hottest dual-purpose accessory. @indiahowerton Free this weekend HMU Rioters attempting to overthrow our democracy have breached the capital & are roaming the halls and in the galley, and they are not being arrested. They are being treated like children on a school field trip. They are taking photos and wandering around. They are standing at the podium as police just stand there. Meanwhile my kids and I were met with riot gear at a . . .
I Hate the Mom That Covid Has Made Me (My NY Times Op-Ed on Parenting)
One recent Thursday, I sent my 14- and 15-year-old boys off to the skate park near our house. I’m a parent who values a childhood lived outdoors. To that end, I’ve been a fairly free-range mom with my four kids, but as they left for the park, I gave them a warning that still feels foreign, even eight months into this pandemic. “Leave your masks on!” They both gave a nod of agreement and were off. In the beforetime, rather than a mask reminder, I would have told them when I expected them home, . . .

Happy 16th to my tall, talented, kind, hilarious, loyal, empathetic, athletic, sarcastic, and adventurous son. @jaftahowerton you have weathered the storms of a hard year with humor and hard work (and a killer GPA !) You are an amazing big brother and friend and you are so loved. I am so proud of the young man you are becoming and can’t wait to see what the future holds. Crowding the #millionmagamarch feed with pancakes is petty goals. Hit like to push this to the top. This was fun on twitter. Let's try it here. I'll go first: one-piece swimsuits, guys in skinny jeans and deep v-necks, Dollywood, spanking your kids in 2020, smoking hot wives, marriage conferences, boho fedoras . . . Trying to catch a ride on the wind with a skateboard and an umbrella. 😍😍 So the $500 used Subzero I found on Craigslist just . . .

I'm ordering our holiday cards this week. Which ones should we choose? @Minted has some funny options and also some that are more artsy. We went with funny last year (because Jafta had a broken arm) but Lord knows this year needs some humor too. (And yes. I do this really early every year. Because I generally find the holiday season and stressful and this is one thing I can get out of the way in advance.) Shout-out to @stevecowell_photo who took this photos that I adore! . . .

View this post on Instagram If you give a mouse a cookie: home edition. I found a $500 Subzero fridge on Craigslist but then decided I had to remodel the entire kitchen to make it fit. I’m a delight. A post shared by Kristen Howerton (@kristenhowerton) on Sep 17, 2020 at 10:41pm PDT Found this gem in my memories today. These dresses were from a trip to Ethiopia. ❤️❤️ View this post on . . .
