This Outta Be Interesting
I got an email from Rick Warren this week. (Yeah, Pastor Rick and I are like totally BFF). Tonight is the Saddleback Civic Forum, where he will interview Obama and McCain on issues of faith. Should be interesting. It's at 5pm Saturday, on CNN or Fox News. Check it out! . . .
Ya’ll ready for a show?
The kids have taken to "putting on a show". This is how it usually goes:1. the kids line up the chairs2. Jafta makes us sit down3. Jafta says "Are you ready for a show?" about twenty times. India tries to say it, too, but it sounds more like "Neddy a so?".4. Both kids refuse to sing, dance, or perform in any way that might constitute a "show"Jafta's kind of like the hype man at a rap concert. Or the crowd warmer at a talk show taping. He's just there to get you excited, but that's where it . . .
DIY French Manicure
I love the clean look of a french manicure. But I don't love spending my limited free time (and babysitting allowance) sitting in a poorly-lit nail salon, getting shamed into a paraffin wax, callous remover, and flower on my toe. Now, I have lots of friends who relish the experience of a salon manicure. If that is the case, YOU GO GIRL. You walk your bad self to the salon and enjoy the pampering. This post is not for you.If, However, you are in my camp, and you want a nice manicure but can think . . .
Off to See Attle
We are flying up to Washington tonight for a week with the whole Howerton clan at Mike & Jodie's house. I keep telling Jafta that we are going to Seattle. But he is thinking that I am saying that we are going to see "Attle". Like if I said we were going to see Grandma or see Mimi. See Attle. He keeps asking when we leave for Attle. Then I explain we are going to Seattle. Then he says, how long does it take to get to Attle? Who's on first? . . .
How Blogging Saved The World
I spend entirely too much time online, reading other people's blogs. It's what a call a neutral addiction. It's not hurting anyone - I'm not flying into a drunk rage or throwing my life away or getting arrested. I'm just quietly wasting lots and lots of time. But part of the reason I am so consumed with reading blogs is that sometimes I feel a bit isolated as a transracial family. IRL (that means in real life, for those of you not spending all your waking hours online) I really don't know any . . .
A Desert Getaway for Mark’s 35th
We took a little getaway to the desert this weekend. Some dear friends were able to join us. Mark got to play some golf, I got to go to the spa, we had some amazing food, and the kids had a blast with their playmates in the pool. It was a great time. Happy birthday to my sweetie. . . .
Mama’s Night Out
We had a great time at our first ever Mama's Night Out, sponsored by my other blog, Mama Manifesto. A group of us gathered at City Salon in Huntington Beach for a night of pampering. We snacked on wine and cheese, had a stylist give us a new 'do, got some makeup tips, and walked away with some fun sunglasses. I had so much fun and can't wait to do it again. . . .
Forever 21, Why Do You Hate Me?
Dear Sir ('cause I know a woman would not be behind this): I have an issue with the sizing at your store. I know, I know. The name of your store should be a warning. I'm not 21 - not even close. I know that my needs could be better met in a store called "Forever Mid-Thirties". Or "Despereately Clinging to My Youth". But still, your budget prices and sassy fashions beckon me in again and again.During my last visit to your store, I found an adorable asian-print dress that would be a great number . . .
Dedication
Jafta got a bag of hand-me-downs from one of his good friends, and before I got to preview it, he pulled out a Cars ski vest. He was so excited about this ski vest that he put it on, immediately. Despite the fact that we have no air conditioning, and despite the fact that it was nearly 100 degrees out, he wore it all morning, and insisted on wearing it during his nap, too. I really can't express how hot it was in our house this day. If I had a macro lens I could show you the sweat beading on his . . .
