July 6, 2015

What I Want You to Know is a series of reader submissions. It is an attempt to allow people to tell their personal stories, in the hopes of bringing greater compassion to the unique issues each of us face. If you would like to submit a story to this series, click here. Today’s guest post is by Lacey.  I first began self-harming, through cutting myselfwhen I was 18. I was already dealing with depression, anxiety, and bulimia, when self-harm came onto the scene, as well as . . .

Two days in Amsterdam with kids

July 5, 2015

When booking our tickets to Tanzania, we realized that we had a short layover in Amsterdam in between two ten-hour flights. Its a long haul and we decided to inquire about opening up the layover for a few days. It would allow us time to catch up on sleep after an overnight flight, break up the long flights, and also spend a few days in a new country. It didn’t cost anything extra to do this, and I’m so glad we did. Here is how we spent two days in Amsterdam with our kids.*     This is . . .

Wednesday’s Child: Lamontae & Nicolas

July 1, 2015

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

QOES: How Do You Fold Your Towels?

June 30, 2015

Have you ever watched someone fold towels differently than you do and discovered your inner OCD when you want to snatch it away and redo it for them? Or have an anxiety attack when a friend is trying to be helpful and folds your towels the wrong way? No?Liar. Folding our towels can become weirdly proprietary. I don't know why. It just does. I fold mine like the hotels do. From the end I fold 1/3 of the way in, then do the same with the other end. Then I fold it in half so you get that nice edge . . .

A prescription for the “wired and tired” trap

June 30, 2015

This post is sponsored by Prescribe Nutrition In the past couple of years I’ve had more and more friends dealing with health issues, fatigue, and insomnia, who have made an overhaul to their diet with great success. This has been true for me as well, though I have to admit that despite knowing the different healthy eating makes, it’s not always easy to stick to it. A new service called Prescribe Nutrition seeks to bridge that gap for busy people who need a little help and accountability. I . . .

Weighing in on ourselves

June 29, 2015

This post was sponsored by Lean Cuisine’s #WeighThis campaign. You can learn more about the campaign here. Last week I talked about how I’m trying to teach my daughters to put weight on who they are and not what they look like. Lean Cuisine’s #WeighThis campaign is asking women to talk about the things they are proud of – the things that they wish their value was weighed on as opposed to physical appearance. Many of you chimed in with your own self-affirmations and I loved reading them. So many . . .
