ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM NOVEMBER 2011. Jafta had his first parent-teacher conference of first grade this week. The teacher planned the conference pretty far in advance, so it was nearly a month ago that she sent home the schedule with the tentative times for the conference. I noticed pretty quickly that while every kid in the class appeared to be schedule for a 30 minute conference, it appeared that the time slot directly after Jafta’s conference . . .
Wednesday’s Child: Meet Gabe
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information . . .

A sweet ending to our trip in Paris (where we met up with my boyfriend and his daughter). We had an amazing time but are ready to head home tomorrow and wear clothes we purchased on purpose! ON THURSDAY'S I POST FROM THE VAULT. THIS POST IS FROM NOVEMBER 2011. Recently I’ve been reading Claire Ortiz’s new book called Twitter for Good, which is full of stories about how twitter has impacted the world. But sometimes, social media can be used to do amazing things. In my own life, I’ve seen social media used as a medium . . .

Another family from the kids’ school is traveling Europe this week as well. The mom and I schemed a surprise to have the kids “run into each other” at dinner. It was the perfect timing for my kids to have a non-sibling to chat with. A dinner and a last sunset swim wrapped up our time here. On to Rome! Happy Father’s Day to Wayne Lowen, my dad and this family’s patron saint of the travel bug we all share. He humored me when, at 16, I said that for my birthday I wanted to fly to Haiti and visit . . .
