BJ’s GROUNDING EXERCISE
It’s preferable to do this with bare feet in grass or dirt, but not necessary. If possible, take off your shoes, even if it’s inside.
- Stand with feet shoulder width apart, arms relaxed at your sides.
- Be sure feet are comfortably positioned on the ground.
- Posture should be aligned but relaxed.
- Shake out your arms and roll your head slowly for a few moments to feel your body relax and release any excess energy.
- Begin to “roll” your feet on the ground until every part of the surface of your feet has touched the ground, including the arch and the base of your toes (spreading the toes and pressing them down helps with this).
- Once you’ve completed that, find the most comfortable position on the ground for your feet.
- Begin to sway side to side then front to back slowly for about 30-60 seconds, or as long as you’d like.
- Raise your arms up over your head, inhaling as you go and stretching your body to its fullest length.
- As you exhale, lower your arms out to the side then continue down, bending to touch your toes.
- Repeat this motion as many times as you’d like until the body feels fully relaxed.
- Now extending the forearms from your sides forward, elbows snug but relaxed against your sides, with palms turned upward, relax into your feet.
- You may stand still or sway side to side, whatever feels most comfortable to you.
- At this point, your body should begin to feel heavy, and you should feel a sensation of being “pulled” through your feet into the earth.
- Stay in this position for as long as you like.
EXPRESSIVE WRITING PROTOCOL
To start, in a few words, write down what you are feeling.
- Then with a scale of 1-10, rate how positive you feel with 1 being not at all positive and 10 very positive.
- Now do the same with any negativity you feel. 1 is not negative at all, 10 is very negative.
- Then rate how meaningful life feels to you right now with 1 being not at all meaningful and 10 very meaningful.
- Now write for 10 minutes about anything that is bothering you. Set a timer and when it goes off, finish the sentence you’re writing then rate yourself again on Positivity, Negativity and Meaning. Only this time rate how meaningful the writing exercise was.
- You can do this for any length of time UP TO 10 minutes but not longer. However, if you are still bothered, you can repeat the process as many times as you like. But don’t skip over the ratings at beginning and end.
MORNING PAGES – FOR ANXIOUS THOUGHTS & OVERWHELM
- Morning Pages are three pages of longhand, stream of consciousness writing, done first thing in the morning.
- There is no wrong way to do Morning Pages – they are not high art. They are not even “writing.” They are about anything and everything that crosses your mind– and they are for your eyes only.
- Morning Pages provoke, clarify, comfort, cajole, prioritize and synchronize the day at hand. Do not over-think Morning Pages: just put three pages of anything on the page…and then do three more pages tomorrow.
- The moment you wake up, write whatever is on your mind for three pages. At the end of the third page, stop.
THROAT CHAKRA CLEARING MEDITATION
- Find a quiet place where you will not be distracted.
- Sit or lie down and bring all of your attention to your breath coming in and out of your body.
- Sit or lie down and bring all of your attention to your breath coming in and out of your body.
- Place your hands on your belly and focus on the rise and fall of the belly with each breath.
- Focus your mind on the color blue and imagine the blue color surrounding your throat area and then imagine it surrounds your entire body.
- Continue to focus on your breathing. Imagine that you are breathing in blue and breathing out blue and notice any uncomfortable feelings in your body.
- Imagine releasing the tension in your body by breathing it out. Relax every muscle in your body and relax every muscle in the throat area. With each breath you feel more relaxed.
- Sing “Ahhhhh” to further open and expand the throat area. With each inhale, imagine that you are breathing in the color blue and with each exhale, sing “Ahhhhhh”. You can sing on any note that feels good to you.
- Feel the sound vibrations through your whole body.
- After you feel complete with this meditation, slowly open your eyes.Bring your attention back into the room and sit up for a few minutes before performing your other activities for the day.
