This post was sponsored by Blue Apron. Over the past four months, we’ve lived in a midst of a home renovation that involved not having a kitchen sink. Or counters. As a result, we ate a lot of take-out and fast food. To say that we’ve developed some unhealthy habits would be an understatement. Our sink was installed a couple weeks ago, but we haven’t quite yet righted the ship in terms of getting back into the practice of cooking at home. The kids went back to school last week, . . .
That’s what SHE said: evangelicals feeling the Bern, white womanhood, the harmful myths amongst adoptive parents of transracial adoptees, muslim children in post 9/11 America, and more…
WHITE WOMANHOOD AND MYSELF | Karen Lynn Yang Karen Lynn Yang, an Asian American woman, reflects on her love/hate relationship with white women crediting them with both her inherited moral framework as well as her acquired disillusionment with evangelical purity culture. While she grew up with white women as role models, she came to the realization she could never assimilate into white womanhood. Where once Karen desired a blonde ponytail and rosy blush, she is finally comfortable in her own . . .

An evangelical talks about how he came to support Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders, a candidate for the 2016 presidential election, did something bold this week. He accepted Liberty University’s invitation to come speak at their school. As a Jewish democratic socialist, he seems an unlikely person to accept an invitation to speak at one of the bastions of conservative evangelicalism (the school was founded by Jerry Fallwell), and in fact was the first Democratic presidential candidate to ever accept the invite. In his speech, he appealed to Christian values: . . .
What I want you to know about marriage survival
What I Want You to Know is a series of reader submissions. It is an attempt to allow people to tell their personal stories, in the hopes of bringing greater compassion to the unique issues each of us face. If you would like to submit a story to this series, click here. Today’s guest post is by Kristin M. LIFE AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL. There was a share once going around - The Lies and Truth About Marriage, and I think it's fairly accurate. Last night we dressed up, had . . .
The lengths I will go to in order to avoid making a phone call
On Thursdays I post from the archives. This is from July 2008. (And I did eventually paint the piano yellow. You can see it here.) I've been wanting to get a piano for our house for almost a year now. We previously had a baby grand but it took up too much space, so we sold it and then my plan was to replace it with an upright. But Craig's List . . . it's just so much work with the calling and the appointment-making. Finally, this week I found a piano at a local thrift . . .
Wednesday’s Child: Preston
Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .
Back-to-School, Glory Hallelujah
This post is sponsored by Zappos. My kids went back to school last week, and not a moment too soon. This summer . . . it may have been one of my hardest yet as a parent. We were in the middle of moving and unpacking, our house was constantly full of construction workers, we didn’t have a working kitchen, and there wasn’t really a place for the kids to play. And in the midst of this I was still trying to work from home full-time. I was exhausted and the kids were bored. I think even they were . . .
What I want you to know about living with an anxiety disorder
What I Want You to Know is a series of reader submissions. It is an attempt to allow people to tell their personal stories, in the hopes of bringing greater compassion to the unique issues each of us face. If you would like to submit a story to this series, click here. Today’s guest post is by Jordan. What I want you to know is when I say "I have anxiety," it is so much more than being overly worried or fearful about something in my life. It's not about worrying . . .
QOES: To minivan or not to minivan?
Oh the mom-mobile. The row of family members and school logo stickers in the back window, extra room for friends, all the space you need for a Costco run - it definitely gets the job done. But does anyone really want a minivan? Source I have strong opinions. I would not minivan if I didn't have to. If I had three kids, I would stuff three kids in the back of a Honda CRV or even in the back of a Honda Civic. In fact, that's exactly what we did until we had four kids. The only reason I . . .
