An open letter to criminals about our current vacation status

January 3, 2015

We are currently in Florida visiting with friends and family for a week and a half, and I've had some concerned messages from well-meaning blog readers about the wisdom of posting about the fact that our home is empty. I guess you're not supposed to mention when you go on vacation on the internet. You know, in case some would-be criminals are reading and decide to rob your house while you are gone.Well, just in case someone is tempted to burglarize our house sometime in the next week or so, . . .

Organizing our technology

January 2, 2015

This post was sponsored by BlueLounge for Target. There are a lot of challenges that come with living in the technological age… the demands on our time of being constantly reachable, the potential distraction from being present, and the unique challenges of monitoring kids and their time on screens. But one of the aspects of our tech use that continues to allude me is how to store all of our devices. Ironically, I would consider us a pretty low-tech family. But with four kids and two . . .

Christmas snapshots

December 31, 2014

We had a nice, mellow Christmas this year. We often travel on Christmas, so it was so nice to have the day at home to just do what we wanted.   None of my kids believe in Santa anymore, but as you can see that hasn’t stifled their enthusiasm.   We have mastered the art of dragging out Christmas morning - a skill I learned from my mom. First the big unwrapped gifts. Then stockings. Then breakfast. Finally, at 11am, we're ready to open presents. One of the big gifts this year was . . .

Family Portraits 2014

December 26, 2014

We did our portraits this year with Kristin Rogers again. She’s a local photographer that I’ve long admired for her slice-of-life instagram account (and she is also an adoptive mom.) We went back to the same hilltop spot we go every year and found that it had been razed to accommodate for a new housing community! So we ended up finding another spot on the fly. A few more buildings in the background than in previous years but I’m still so happy with how they came out. Tea Collection . . .

Christmas Eve then and now, and some bad family caroling

December 25, 2014

We had a mellow Christmas Eve today. It was the first day in a long time that Mark and I really had no work obligations. December has been a busy month and it was nice to have a day totally focused on holiday and family. And now comes the part where I barrage you with photos from Christmas Eve.  And not just this year!  I have nostalgic and self-indulgent older photos to post, too!  Still here?  And ready to take a stroll down memory lane? For the last fourteem years, we've . . .
