Someone’s gonna lose | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from June 2009.

January 16, 2020

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from June 2009. I've been a mother to three small ones for six weeks now. This week, I seem to have kind of hit a wall. I'm so, so tired, The adrenaline has worn off, and the energy is waning. But the part that is really most frustrating to me is how little I am able to get done right now. For a type-A mama, ending the day with just as many items on the to-do list as I started with is NOT a great feeling. I'd been advised by lots of . . .

Wednesday’s Child: 11-year-old Savannah

January 15, 2020

Every Wednesday I feature a child recently highlighted by a local Wednesday's Child newscast to share the stories of children from around the country who are waiting for a family. My hope is that this can broaden exposure for the children highlighted, but also serve as a reminder that these children represent thousands of children currently in the foster-care system. Perhaps their stories will inspire you to consider opening your home to a child needing a family. For more information and to . . .

We tried to make a D&D cake for a teenage friend but it sort of looked like a satanic blood cake (swipe left for the full effect 😳). Also, dancing and singing while cooking is a familial trait but I have no explanation for their obsession with preschool tv show jingles. Green tea mochi and a new episode of The Good Place is Karis’s idea of living her best life. Ramen! 👏👏 Repost @whitesugarbrownsugar ・・・ We’re at the store and spot a display of little baby . . .

Poop In A Box | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009.

January 9, 2020

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from May 2009. Who doesn’t love a mystery story? (People eating their lunch right now, that’s who. Blatant crap talk to follow. If you are squeamish, go look at this instead). Yesterday when I went to retrieve India from her nap I noticed a strong odor eminating from her room. It was poop, to be sure, but the smell was just a bit more permeating than usual. I also noticed immediately that she was wearing a swim diaper under her dress . . .

Cuban food with some of my favorite people. When I look at this picture from 2010, I can't help but think "she has no idea what she's in for." At the time of this photo, I had finally legally adopted Jafta, after 3 years of ambiguity and stress. I'd given birth to two girls, in the midst of 8 miscarriages. Kembe's adoption was finally moving forward. I was training for a half-marathon and raising 3 kids under 4. I was tired but also hoping that life was about to calm . . .

What would you do? (a poll) | On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from June 2009.

January 2, 2020

On Thursdays I post from the vault. This post is from June 2009 Sometimes motherhood throws me into situations where there is no clear-cut answer, and where I am left choosing between the lesser of two evils. I ran into one of those situations today, and I'm curious to know what other moms would have done. So, WWYD? Here's the scenario: You need to run into a major grocery store chain for milk, and you have three kids in tow (one of them a newborn in an infant seat). You spot the fancy . . .

Annual Buddy the Elf Spaghetti Bar Happy birthday to this warm, funny, loving, loyal, skateboarding, bass-playing 15-year-old! We love you @jaftahowerton. Just a couple SoCal kids trying to live that “winter” life. #winterfestoc Saw Little Women with my two little women and cried through the entire second half. Man I loved that book at their age and the movie was a lovely retelling. My “little men” were in the next theater over watching Star Wars for the second time this week. I tried . . .
