As it turns out, the “Little Snowie” machine is great for adults, too.
Today in “let’s throw money at the empty void of boredom that is quarantine” … we got a snow-cone machine.
We’ve entered the “camping in the backyard” stage of quarantine.
A little light post-dinner wrestling. No one can beat Jafta anymore. It’s all theater and him being a good sport. He can pick any of us up and sling us around. 😂

India embroidered the cover of Call Me By Your Name onto her shirt because that’s a normal thing for a middle schooler to do. @tchalamet
My book is now in @Target stores! It was surreal to see this thing sitting on the physical shelves amongst so many books I love. Releasing a book in the midst of a global pandemic has definitely had some disappointments, but this was a nice moment. And it’s 20% off! If you see the book in Target, take a picture and tag me. If you are in the Costa Mesa/ Huntington Beach area, I have signed several books at local Targets.
A very happy birthday to my long-time friend Tim Taber, who also happens to be in the live music industry that has been hit so hard in the middle of this pandemic. His company is selling some “Support Live Music” goods and a portion of the proceeds from this line will provide assistance for artists and touring crew affected by COVID-19. Swipe to see some of their merch, and check my stories for the link or go here: https://transparentproductions.com/shop.
First date night in FOUR MONTHS! I’ve been really conservative about eating in restaurants but got a tip about the outdoor rooftop setup at @oldvinekitchenbar at @thecampoc and how careful they are being. Tables were spaced at least 6 feet apart. Menus were touchless (scan to your phone) and they had hand saniitzer at each table. All staff in masks. I have been very risk-averse but felt totally comfortable here. It was nice to have an evening of normalcy in the midst of this season. And a meal without kids or doing dishes!
Parents of teenagers: what rules do you have in place for your teens and social distancing, and how are you enforcing it? I’ve allowed my kids to ride bikes and skate with others, with the provision that they stay physically apart at least 6 feet, stay outside, and leave their masks on. But . . teenagers. Not the most compliant population on earth. I’ve done a few “spot checks” (driving by where they are supposed to be to make sure their masks are on) and I will also randomly facetime them to make sure masks are on. I don’t love this kind of helicopter parenting AT ALL. But I also have a value that they get out of the house while at the same time have a value of not catching COVID because teenagers think they are invincible. What are your rules, and how are you making sure they are followed?
