A couple weeks ago, we got the kids their own caterpillars. Jafta named his Cooper, and they became fast friends. Jafta played with him, sang to him, and talked about him all the time. He took him to his class for show & tell. Cooper is the first thing he runs to when he comes home.
A few days ago, Cooper made the transformation into a butterfly. Since that time, Cooper has tried to escape his “Butterfly Habitat” at every opportunity. Cooper is so ready to fly the coop. And I know that this is going to devestate Jafta.
So far, our first foray into a family pet is destined to end in heartbreak.

Maybe you should just keep getting him new caterpillars? Kind of like when hamsters die.
