I’ve mentioned before I’m a part of the Windows Champions team, which means from time to time I get to share tutorials on some of the features that come (free) on Windows computers. I wanted to share a little bit about Windows Live Movie Maker. I’ve always felt daunted at the process of getting my videos uploaded to YouTube, but Movie Maker allows you to do quick and easy edits and then save to YouTube without leaving the program. It’s made it much easier for me to add easy titles and captions to my videos. If you are a techie, this is probably not news to you, but if you are like me and get overwhelmed at just the idea of getting your videos to YouTube, then hopefully this will be helpful. In the video, I’m showing how India makes a home movie by herself, and how, in a couple seconds, I can add a title frame to the movie she’s made and then upload it to YouTube. Movie Maker is also great for making edits if say, for example, you realize after filming that your child picked her nose in the shot, or if you refer to the camera as “your phone” and are too lazy to reshoot. In the video, India is using the HP TouchSmart 600 computer along with a Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 ($25 at Amazon right now) that makes movie making really easy for kids. I’m filming her with a Sony HDR-CX160 Handycam, and then I edited the video of her making a video with Movie Maker as well. So meta! If you have a PC, your computer should already be loaded with this program, but if it’s not you can download it for free right here. [disclosure]
