Fun with flat irons

February 27, 2013

Last night after our baths the girls asked me to “make their hair bendy” – which is what they call it when I use the flat-iron to curl their hair. I used to do this when they had long hair and it resulted in these amazing long ringlets, but now that they have short hair, it really just kind of flips outward into a mid-80’s Farrah Fawcett ‘do.

Karis cracks me up. I feel like she looks like a little country-western singer ready for her big break at the Grand Ole’ Opry.

Kembe was watching all this hair transformation and BEGGED me to do his, too. It was nearing bedtime (and he’s got quite a bit more hair than the girls) so I told him that I would only have time to do a small section. I used the flat iron exactly as I did on the girls, and . . .

Yeah. I was dying laughing, but Kembe was STOKED.  He decided he looked just like Tony Hawk (huh?) and couldn’t wait for his friends to see his cool hair. The girls love it, too. Of course, I started scheming how to curl it back up before the morning so that I didn’t actually send him off to school looking like this. I thought about sneaking in and wetting it in his sleep.  Fortunately when he woke up the straight-ish part was laying over to the side, in a sort of “Flock of Seagulls” way. image (We called that a “stab” back in the 80’s.) I’m very curious to hear how Kembe’s friends at school reacted to his hair. But at least now I know what to do for Crazy Hair Day!
