First day back to school. I cannot believe I have THREE in high school this year and my youngest in middle school. All four are at the same school once again (it’s a middle/high combo) and I love it. The boys had their first football game Friday night and Karis is decked out in her cheer skirt with India rocking her ASB shirt. Quite a difference from last year where the first day was on zoom from home. (My kids did most of last year online, until I got the vaccine in the spring and they went back in-person for a few months. We were very fortunate to have a school that allowed this option.)
I think like most families we are feeling both hopeful and anxious about the next school year. I am so glad that they are going in person but also mindful that this pandemic is raging through our country right now. They are excited about upcoming school plays and football games, cheer team and student government and homecoming dance and all the fun in-person school has to offer that was missed last year. I hope COVID doesn’t ruin all of it. Guys, please get the vaccine or stay home to avoid spreading it. Do what you can to mitigate this thing. Our kids have lost so much. I didn’t even plan for this to be a post about COVID but I don’t know how it can’t be. It’s the subtext of everything right now, and it’s no longer a “personal decision” to fail to take part in mitigation efforts. I want my kids to have a normal year and none of them will if things are constantly canceled due to quarantines, illness, and exposure risks. It’s brutal thinking about all the hope they have for this year and wondering how precarious all of it is.
So nice being back at the @hollywoodbowl for the Sound of Music Sing-Along!
Kembe decided he wanted to try playing football AND water polo in the same season. He has water polo practice at 6am and football at 3pm. Here’s how it’s going so far at 11am.
BTW, question for the sports people . . . doing these sports at the same time seems technically feasible schedule-wise. But is it physically feasible? Seems like . . . a lot?
