Yesterday I briefly mentioned some concerns I had about some of Rachel Hollis’s problematic ideologies, and so I decided to unpack some of them further. Today, I’m starting with looking at the merits and problems with an ideology that shields us from worrying about what other people think of us. I’m going to look at why this narrative is so appealing and has become so popular, why it causes problems in our relationships, why it’s antithetical to anti-racism work, and how to find a healthy balance between people-pleasing and overthinking about what others think vs. lacking empathy for the way we may others feel.
Check out Austin Channing doing a deeper dive on the race aspects I mentioned. Here is the forgiveness protocol I mentioned.
