Driveway barbershop in session. Line up for a line-up!
On @selfiepodcast this week … Sometimes, self-care is dependent on community-care. That is, when you are drowning in a crisis and can’t even begin to fathom what you might need, a simple text from a friend, an offer to pick up your kids, or a food delivery (even cross-country, bless up DoorDash) can be the one thing that keeps you from teetering off the edge. This week, @roo_pow and I talk about the times in our lives when we’ve had to rely on the people around us to shoulder the brunt of our own self-care. Link in my stories …
Well since apparently my video reveal yesterday posted sideways (which is VERY ONBRAND for a book about letting go of perfectionsim amirite) I figured I’d post a still shot, so you can see it without craning your neck. This new baby of mine is due June 6 but unlike my other 4 children, this one is available for preorder! (The link is in my profile but it’s at Amazon, Target, etc.)
I’ve given a lot of thought into who to vote for in the primary, and I’ve landed on Elizabeth Warren for a few reasons:
1. As a mom of a former foster youth who has a form of Medicare for insurance, I am very familiar with the system and think it should be available to all citizens (just as healthcare is available to citizens in most other developed countries.) I am a strong proponent of a single-payer health insurance system, and I do not believe it works if we leave for-profit insurance in place. Therefore, I was only looking at candidates wanting to replace private insurance completely.
2. She has been fighting against economic corruption for years – long before being an elected official. It’s a passion of hers, and I trust her in the highest office to actually be FOR THE PEOPLE, not for her donors.
3. She is compassionate. She has empathy and I trust her character. This goes a long way for me. We’ve seen what a lack of empathy and compassion looks like in a president. Our country needs someone with integrity.
4. She is a woman with a plan. She’s insanely smart and has creative solutions, and more than that, I believe she has the ability to work well with others and make her plans a reality.
5. I believe that she is the best candidate to beat Donald Trump. She is charismatic and has a populist, anti-corruption platform – Trump had a similar platform in his last election which drew many people to him, and which he did not uphold. I think Warren has the ability to capture those who are fed up with Trump’s antics but still like the populist message.
If you are willing to share and keep it civil, I’d love to hear who you are voting for, and how you landed on that decision.
We both woke up feeling yucky. Making the best of it.
I got an Echo Dot for every kid this Christmas only to discover you cannot set up different Spotify accounts unless you set up totally different Amazon accounts for each Echo Dot, and Amazon child accounts don’t work with Alexa. All of my kids have their own Spotify accounts but when they use Alexa it cues up from mine Has anyone found a work-around? This dynamic is driving me nuts.
Several afternoons a week for the past few months India has walked from her school to Karis’s to act as an assistant to the director for their elementary school musical. She participated in the same productions throughout her years at this school and loved it so much that she wanted to give back, and she’s doing it despite being busy practicing for an upcoming play at SCR. I’m so proud of her talent but even more proud that she feels the impulse to give back. ❤️❤️
