Life Lately

February 6, 2023

I commented to Jafta that his camo suspenders looked a little redneck and his response was that he is trying to bring awarensss to the “black redneck community.” So there you have it. #blackhistorymonth#blackredneckawareness

Taking my therapy notes in this notebook today. 😉

Love starting my year with these gals. @taralivesay@jenhatmaker @jamietheveryworst@sarahbessey

I decided that my word for the year is DANCE. I used to love to dance. In clubs, in classes, in musicals … anywhere. Then I got busy and had kids and fell out of rhythms were dancing was happening. Over the past year I’ve been doing more research into trauma processing (for both personal and professional reasons) and learning about how bilateral movement, whether walking, tapping, EMDR, drumming or even dance, can help our brain process difficult experiences. So this past fall I signed up for some community college dance classes (tap and African dance) for the first time since Jafta was a toddler. It was intimidating and humbling but SO FUN. And I did find it was helping my mental health as well. I am signing on for my classes this year and also committing to doing more random dancing, even if it’s just in my kitchen. (If you are local, come take African dance with me on Thursday nights at OCC! It’s an amazing group of really cool people. I will put the details in my story).
