A picturesque evening stroll and snowy morning in Zurich before heading home.
Last sunset in Portugal.
We had a lovely meal of tapas across from a monastery with the boys. Swipe to see where the basic bitches ate lunch across the street. 😬
Looking at potential real estate in Sintra. #futureexpats #needsabiggermoat
Yesterday we split up girls vs. boys. The girls and I went shopping. The stores here feel like downtown Disneyland. Everything is gorgeous right down to the packaging and bags. Meanwhile the boys took scooters and went on a tinned fish food crawl. No thank you. #foodiejafta
I mentioned on facebook we were visiting Lisbon, and my new friend and Portugal-native Ana reached out with some recommendations. I told her we were looking for a good place to eat for Thanksgiving and she said she had family in Portugal who would enjoy doing a Thanksgiving meal .. would we like to join them? And that’s how we spent Thanksgiving with a lovely Portuguese family who started as strangers and ended the evening as friends. We talked about our different holiday traditions, food, travel, cultural differences, politics … and meanwhile the kids were having similar conversations. And then we stood in a circle and talked about what we were thankful for. An evening to restore my faith in humanity and make the world feel a little smaller. Thank you Ana for the intro and thank you @paula.gomes.freire and family for the amazing night!
A part of successful travel with teens involves figuring out ways to meet everyone’s interests wherever we are visiting. That often looks like researching skate spots (which the boys want) near some art museums (which the girls want). Today we spent the morning together touring Belem. Then we split up and the girls and I went to several museums while the boys hit up a skate park and rode scooters through the city by themselves. A win-win.
Tourists doing tourist things.
Walking, trolleying, and biking. Beauty at every turn. We’re loving Lisbon. (Thank you @xaviermartins for an amazing afternoon.)
Update: india does not like sangria

Almost 24 hours (and little sleep) later and we made it to Portugal! A forced walk and cathedral tour to try to stay awake until a reasonable bedtime here. (We made it until 7pm).
When you try to bring some American Thanksgiving to Portugal but TSA isn’t having it.
