Life Lately

September 7, 2020

If you are local to Orange County, consider stopping by this teach-in and rally against racism tomorrow (Monday). There will be a lot of great speakers. It’s a family-friendly event and will be peaceful and educational. They are asking people to wear masks and practice social distancing. Bring your own chairs or blankets! Check my stories for a link to the facebook event page and invite your friends! Organized by Black in OC.

Little sister gets in on the act and shows the boys how it’s done. (I let her jump off the roof into the pool as a reward for her hard work.) Note: Kembe calls Karis by her middle name Jade.

Cleaning out the dead brush from our bougainvillea for the first time in … ever? 😳Kembe just found a ball that was from their toddler years. Also found: toy cars, several wasp nests, a shedded snake skin, and two footballs.

I think I have officially converted my daughters to the housedress. Comfortable! Elastic waist! No matching required! Looks dressy but you don’t have to wear pants! #caftanrevolution

We live right by our county’s fairgrounds. We usually spend our summers walking over to the fair or indulging in random concerts at their amphitheater because our proximity affords our neighborhood a discount on tickets as a consolation for the noise nuisance. At the beginning of the summer we coordinate with friends on what cover bands or demolition derbies or weird traveling acts we all want to see. Friends meet at my house and we bike over, sometimes with kids and sometimes without. We ride over at dusk and eat shitty food and drink overpriced beer and skip the line of cars trying to leave all at once. There was no fair this year. A small disappointment but there nonetheless. This week, COVID testing tents took over the parking lot. My kids’ now-empty school sits across the street from the tents. Today we went and picked up their textbooks to use from home. I’m sure this is true for most of us, but there are some days that I feel adjusted to this new normal. And some days where I feel just a little gut-punched by how abnormal and weird all of this feels. Today was one of those days.
