Life Lately

Last night we held a “Pandemic Prom” for our senior who missed out on here this year. I used my @nuuly subscription this month to order a bunch of fancy dresses that the girls picked out. (I will talk more about that in my stories.) We ordered decor from Target and spent the day decorating. And of course it

devolved into a giant balloon fight, and the boys mostly refused to dance (like a lot of school dances). But it was fun to have a break in our routine and a reason to get out of our pajamas.

Quarantine Prom

“My book centers on the way life (and parenthood) didn’t go as planned for me, and birthing my first book in the middle of a pandemic was definitely on-brand. Before the pandemic, I thought that I could only write in an empty house, and would only ever write while my kids were at school. That all changed when distance learning went into effect, and suddenly my four kids were with me all day. Initially, I tried to shut myself off in my room, which is where I wrote most of my book last year. There is a little alcove with a sofa where I do most of my writing. But with the kids home I found that I needed to have eyes on them during the school day. So we shuffled things around, and sometimes I worked in my little room alcove, and sometimes in the middle of my living room near the kids. It’s chaotic, and decidedly less productive than I used to be, but I have learned that I can write with other people in the room. We’ve all sort of learned to work around each other and cohabit our spaces more collectively in the past few months. I can’t say it’s been amazing . . . yes, we’ve grown closer but it’s also been stressful as hell. But one thing is for sure, it’s a season we will never forget.” #RageAgainstTheMinivan #KristenHowerton #shelfie #writer #writersofinstagram #writersdesk #bookstagram

How to go grocery shopping in 2020:
1. Wear a mask
2. Make a list and get in and out quickly
3. Put the groceries in the front seat so you don’t wrinkle your protest signs

In 5th grade the kids get to paint their own skateboards. She decorated hers with her current obsession.
