All of my teens are home for the summer, and many of the camps they were looking forward to have been canceled. I was feeling skeptical about virtual camps but my friend Jesse reached out to me about the camp they are hosting at Camp Good Work House, and I was really excited to see how they’ve figured out how to make a virtual camp truly interactive and fun. It’s a week-long camp for kids ages 13-18 interested in growing themselves and bettering the world. My three oldest kids will be attending a week this summer. Here’s the official description:
The theme for the summer is Becoming a Force for Good. Campers will experience a combination of small group discussions and instructor-led sessions built around four pillars: Be Good to Yourself, Be Good to your Neighbor, Be Good to your Community, and Be Good to the World. A wide range of sessions will be offered from the talented goodinfluence Team of creators, influencers, artists, and entrepreneurs from the Good Work House community in Venice, California. Most of these folks have a long history of attending and leading summer camps themselves. Topics include: photography, video creation and editing, story-telling, song writing, comedy/sketch-writing, drawing, cooking, growing an audience (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok), meditation, yoga, digital wellness, breathwork, serving others virtually, helping friends struggling with mental health, entrepreneurship. Campers meet throughout the week in pods of 12-15 kids share their experiences and get to know each other. Pods are led by counselors who guide them through the curriculum and ensure that everyone feels a deep sense of belonging. All counselors undergo background checks and the entire staff signs our Child Protection Policy.
Good Work House is a community of influencers, creators, artists, and entrepreneurs using their platforms for good. They are a project of Haiti Partners, a non-profit organization focused on education in Haiti.
