I thought I would share a simple way we recycle old grocery bags in our house. I try my best to use reusable bags, but inevitably I remember them at the checkout stand with a pile full of groceries in my cart, after it’s too late to run to the car and fetch them. When this happens I ask for paper bags, and once I’m home I fold them up and stash them in a drawer. Whenever we have a birthday party to attend, I will pull one out and use it as wrapping paper, and then let the kids decorate it. It’s pretty easy – you just cut the bottom off the bag, cut off the handles, and cut a straight line to turn it into one long piece of paper. Then you wrap it as you would any gift. If the gift is too large, you can piece together a longer length of paper by using two bags. Once it’s wrapped you can let the kids decorate it however they want. It also alleviates the need for a gift tag, since you can write on the paper. I find it hard enough keeping track of birthday gifts we need to purchase, so I like having a method that helps me avoid having to buy gift bags, cards, or wrapping paper as well. I also keep a stash of ribbons from the gifts the kids receive, and tie it onto the package to dress it up a bit. Do you have any creative uses for recycling grocery bags?
