One of the things I love about parenting is introducing things I am passionate about to my kids. If you know me at all, you know that I am crazy about musical theater. Fortunately, after years of mind-control schemes, my husband is a fan, too. I watched a lot of musicals growing up. (thank you, mom). I especially loved Annie, and it’s been fun to see my kids singing and dancing along the movie the way I used to. Today, I showed the kids The Pirates of Penzance, and Jafta really liked it (or what he could hear of it, during the few moments I stopped singing along). I can’t wait to show him Oklahoma, Newsies, and Little Shop of Horrors.
Shared Passions
Jafta has also taken a liking to Les Miserable, the Concert. Mark got this DVD for us when we went to Haiti, and Jafta wanted to see it. He watched it at least 6 times on the trip. I recently asked about his favorite movie, and he said “Les Mis, I guess”. What a cutie! I was also choked up watching the Tony Awards with Jafta, who asked to watch the musical numbers over and over again. He is loving the soundtrack to In the Heights. I am so excited for the day that he’s old enough to go to a Broadway show. I want my kids to be passionate about whatever sparks their interest, but it sure is fun to have some in common.
